Product: 1597495867 I am an information systems auditor–not a forensic specialist. I read this book to learn more about the tools and technology digital forensics professionals use. I found it to be a great overview of, and reference guide to, digital forensics. It covers the three major desktop and server computing platforms (Windows, Linux, and Mac OS), and provides a good overview of forensics tools and techniques. I’d recommend it to any IS auditor who wants to go a little deeper into the technology side of things.

Product: 1593273835 I use GIMP for some of my image editing but I never really knew the capabilities of the program. After working through this book, I was blown away by the tools and options GIMP had to offer. Needless to say, it may be better to just stick with GIMP and save my money than to buy Photoshop for hundreds of dollars. The content was neat, informative, direct, organized, and easy to follow.

Product: How Linux Works This book is for anyone who is interested in learning Linux. With that said, I highly recommend that you have a solid foundation when it comes to computers and be willing to learn and to follow along. The chapters are grouped into three basic sections. The first part is introductory, giving you a birds-eye view of the system and then offering hands-on experience with some tools youll need for as long as you run Linux.

Product: 007148874X I failed the test by about a 100 points, I have taken other compTIA tests and never failed. I had used UNIX for about 20 years. I kind of knew this text might have problems when the server exercises never worked. I thought the first part of the book was a good starting point for learning Linux. I tried another text that used a lot GUI. There are no GUI questions on the test.

Product: LINUX Beginner’s Crash Cours The thing that I really liked about Beginners Crash Course is that it really is for beginners. Most of the books are always one step ahead of the real beginner, but this is not the case here. This book assumes that you have absolutely no Linux knowledge and it actually starts by walking you through the steps of getting an account. So you’re really starting at the beginning.

Product: 1590594444 After reading this book, I think it is going to be the mandatory companion I hand out to new Linux administrators, along with Essential System Administration. The first 6 chapters are exceptional. I can’t say enough good things about them. The coverage of PAM is better than anything I have seen. The coverage of authentication, groups, users and best practices surrounding them was very good as well. The logging chapter alone is probably worth the purchase of the book.
