Product: The Linux Programming Interface: A Linux and UNIX System Programming Handbook I was so impressed by the sample chapters that I quickly ordered a copy from the publisher. My initial impressions have proven true. This book is a great reference and resource for learning both the Linux API’s and the general posix API’s. I highly recommend this book to any geek interested in low level programming. Rating: 5 1593272200 Count: 29

Product: 0471752827 I built a new computer. Use this book to load the Linux on it. Very good and step by step instruction for Windows users that know how to load windows. More instructions on how to load the applications. I would buy it again. You need another book if you want to learn more after this introduction to get you started. Rating: 4 0471752827 Count: 6

Product: 0072253657 Great book for somebody whom wants to learn Linux but this book is outdated and is nothing like the test. Don’t waste your money if you think this book will help you pass the test. Rating: 2 0072253657 Count: 10

Product: 1430218894 This is a very well written, conscious book. The author covers a lot of ground, but has a good balance of detail at the same time. He does not try to be funny or going off on tangents, but it is still a captivating read. His style just really works for me. Just good solid facts and information on how to administer a Linux system through the command line.

Product: 0307269647 While this book is interesting and important, it is ultimately seriously flawed. By far the strongest sections of the book are those in which Lanier discusses the dehumanising aspects of Web 2.0 and the potentially disastrous results of the internet’s ‘free’ culture. His observations about the disappointing results of Web 2.0 mainstays such as Wikipedia and Linux are particularly interesting, and his conclusion that they’ve served as a conservative influence on the spread of knowledge and software development respectively is important.

Product: 0789735318 The previous poster did bring up a good point: this book will not teach you how to hack. It WILL help you pass the CEH exam. It lays a very good foundation, and the only reason I give it 4 stars was because it was lacking the detail and depth to be fully comprehensive. Keep in mind, that this book is meant for people who do have an administration background and who happen to be pretty familiar with Linux and Windows.

Product: 0131429019 The Art of UNIX Programming by Eric S. Raymond, contains over 30 years software engineering wisdom. In addition to Raymond?s own experience, the book also incorporates knowledge from thirteen UNIX pioneers including Ken Thompson (the creator of UNIX) and David Korn (creator of the korn shell). Raymond?s book tells about the philosophy, design, tools, culture, and traditions that make up UNIX. Raymond shows how these are being carried forward today in both the open-source movement and Linux.
