Product: 151182607X When you are on the way of learning about operating systems yourself, the first and the most difficult task is to choose an appropriate manual. There are plenty online, but what you need, is something that is written in a simple, comprehensive way for better understanding, with lots of examples to try and practice your knowledge right away. So, I am in a great luck to find Linux Command Line by Ray Yao.

Product: 1430248211 Learn Raspberry pi with Linux is a very useful book. Once the obligatory introductory chapters are out of the way, you delve, step by step, into the Linux system, and its’ particular implementation on the Pi. If you are new to Linux, this book will get you started on taming and using this powerful and far-ranging system. The projects chosen, learning to write BASH scripts, opening a virtual desktop on another machine, installing a LAMP server, configuring cable-less wifi and experimenting with web cams and motion detection, or setting up a media center, will not only get you up and running with Linux-speak (the explanations concerning the various commands and their syntax are really good) but will serve as the basis for further extensions of the Pi and Linux’s usefulness.

Product: 0066620732 A must-read bio of both Linus & Linux. Hilarious, irreverent, but above all, ultimately funny account of what it meant to be an accidental revolutionary by creating Linux. Only reason not to give full rating, are three typos/erratas that I’ve found, and considering that to be the editor’s task, I know they could do better. But as for the story itself, I really enjoyed it :-) Rating: 4 0066620732 Count: 36

Product: 0596002874 I am a die hard GNU/Linux user for over 12 years. I have become extremely frustrated in Microsoft products that simply don’t work and are a huge pain to maintain, while using Linux and watching it excel over Microsoft products again and again. I wrote my own article comparing Linux to Windows and finally decided it was time to get some more history of GNU/Linux and how it came to be.

Product: The Hack-Counter Hack Training Course Setup is extremely easy. No need to install lots of EXEs etc. stuffs like other Computer-Based Training (CBT) programs. You can actually just slide in the CD and jump start the course. It’s video based. You can sit back and relax to watch Ed Skoudis explaining how the hacking works and how-to counter them via his video and tools demo. This package does come with some goodies hacking tools in the CD ROM, both Windows and Linux based.

Product: 0385503865 I was very satisfied with The Wisdom of Crowds. Surowiecki’s main hypothesis is that in many situations the answer a crowd arrives at can outperform that of the smartest individual in the group. He gives many interesting examples of this, and of the types of situations where the group doesn’t perform well and why, breaking group interactions into three types: cognition, coordination, and cooperation. Some of the topics included: the bubble booms of plank roads and bowling alleys, intelligence agencies and 9⁄11, restaurant tipping, television ratings, highway merging, SARS research, Linux, the Columbia explosion, corporate infrastructure, and the biggest most relevant group - democracy in the US.

Product: 0066620732 You’d better be somewhat geek to get the language of this book. It’s a fun book. If you are in the IT industry and have affinity for open source and Linux you’d better be reading this book. One thing I did not like is although I know Linus is not such a person to act as a hero, he is presented to be so. If the book was named …accidental hero rather than …accidental revolutionary, I’d not be buying it I guess.

Product: 0131367366 Excerpted comments from my USENIX ;login: column, The Bookworm by Peter H. Salus. I’ve received an abnormally large number of really good books over the past few months. Even three on Java that made me relent a bit. Perl, Tcl, C++, Icon, AWK, intranets, extranets, Linux and security are among the other topics. …Linux: Linux books are sprouting as though they were Java. Most of the ones I’ve seen are less than wonderful.
