Product: 1518684777 I haven’t used Linux yet but a friend mine persuaded me to give it a try. This book is a great overview of Raspberry PI and give me the feeling of confidence when it comes to use. As a beginner I could understand easily the descriptions. It doesnt mean that an advanced user won’t find it useful. Rating: 5 1518684777 Count: 8

Product: 0470147628 I used an earlier edition of this book as a textbook for a Linux programming class - it is that good. This book presumes a good knowledge of C language, but only to understand the existing code, which is available for download from the publisher. The breadth and precision of presentation, from shell basics to introductory SQL for MySQL is impressive. Rating: 5 0470147628 Count: 10

Product: 1593273835 I was very impressed by the look and feel of this book - it is a magnificent volume - and by the step by step tutorials. I have learned a lot from this book - I didn’t know, for instance, that the GIMP is great for drawing, has very advanced drawing tools, and that it’s capabilities for animations are quite sophisticated. The explanations of how to use GIMP for animation, drawing and illustration and website design all showed me aspects of the GIMP that I knew nothing or very little about.

Product: UNIX and Linux System Administration Handbook I call this book the Unix bible. I got this book (third edition) 13 years ago and read it pretty much cover to cover in a few weeks. Even 13 years later I still refer to it every now and then, and I always find something new. This book is a true classic and pretty much the only general Unix sysadmin book you will ever need.

Product: 0131478230 I came into using Linux very reluctantly as a data logger custom build for me uses this. Having had a lot of earlier experience with DOS I have found it quite a breeze to understand and use. The job names are anything but intuitive but their function is quite clear. I ended up buying both the Kindle and hardcopy versions, so that I could have access while working as well as something to browse when away from my PC.

Product: How Linux Works Just reading the book is educational, but after a certain point you really need to be sitting at a computer trying the examples. Worth having an actual hard copy book even though you can download the pdf version for free. Much better than a lot of the other free on line Linux guides. Rating: 5 1593270356 Count: 59

Product: The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction Easy to read. But if you are looking for a reference book or expecting this to tell you how to use a particular distribution, GUI desktop or application you will be disappointed. However since all Linux is more or less the same at a basic level this book will help you understand what is going on underneath the desktop environment and how to really manipulate Linux.

Product: 0066620732 … I found this book fun/easy to read. I put myself in Linus’s shoes. It was a fun walk. Yes, I used to program a vic 20. But then thousands of us programmed these things. Yes, I used to have a big nose. Yes, yes, yes, fun stuff. Of course, programming all night long is a drag. It is nice to see that this guy made a job of it.

Product: Linux Device Drivers I read this book in preparation for a contract job that involved porting a Linux device driver to another operating system. I already have years of experience in operating system design, and have written device drivers in the past. However, Linux has changed over the years, and I wanted to make sure I knew all the latest information. I certainly got what a wanted - this book helped me brush up my knowledge, with excellent details on the different steps required to implement a device driver, which functions to call, and what the various gotchas could be.
