Product: The Linux Programming Interface: A Linux and UNIX System Programming Handbook Just..wow. I’ve been a linux user for more than fifteen years. I’ve done a fair bit of © programming on a variety of distros and thought myself familiar with most concepts. This book digs deep and very clearly explains the features, concepts and conventions of Linux, POSIX, SystemV and BSD. I’ve learned a lot from this book that carries over to administration and even everyday use.

Product: Linux for Beginners: An Introduction to the Linux Operating System and Command Line It’s a good way to get insight into starting with Linux, but anyone relying on a book to learn about something as dynamic as computer science is going to be hopelessly far behind by the time they finish it. In fact, by the time this book was printed, a lot of the information was already obsolete.

Product: Linux Bible great book and the price was great also, saved $25 buying it on Amazon….. this is a newer publication of one I already had and it was so cheap it was worth buying again…….. if you use Linux you may need this book someday, better to have it than to need it and not have it…… Rating: 5 0470230193 Count: 52

Product: 159327257X I’ve tried to figure out Linux many times before but could just never get it. This book is remarkable. If you’re a Linux guru this is not the book for you (it’s far too simplistic for a Linux guru), but if you are a person running Windows that is sick of how poorly it performs and how much software costs, and want to switch over to a far superior operating system while making your computer faster, more secure, and never spending a penny of money on software again, this is the book for you.

Product: 0307711544 This author is new to me. He is a coeditor of Boing Boing and a Hugo Award winner . Plus he really knows his stuff. If you like your science fiction to be about events just around the corner then this is the book for you and your misunderstood teenagers. I can not imagine any young person under 21 who can not relate to the behaviors, attitudes and events in this book.

Product: The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction I’m a big fan of command line interfaces; they may be more difficult to work out than WIMP interfaces but they are considerably more powerful. However I’m not such a fan of The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction. Yes it’s a pretty reasonable introduction to the command line interface but I found enough irritations in it to put me off. Let’s start off on a positive note; coverage is good.

Product: 0066620732 This book is exactly what I expected it to be. Linus don’t give us a detailed explanation on why he did things this way but frankly, this is not an error for a book of this category. This book is an auto biografy, not a kernel hacker’s book. Reading this book you will feel how the Torvald’s life is going on. It’s true. Reading this you will undertand Torvalds is tired about Linux.

Product: 0380815931 I picked up a copy of this book in a used book store because I love the title and really enjoy Stephenson. He describes the early days of Apple and the evolution of the graphic interface. I was dragged into personal computing almost 25 years ago by my then 15 year old son, and remember the command line days well. There was a real community of those who were willing to learn the system, and we thought we were pretty cool knowing DOS in the pre-Prodigy/AOL days.
