Product: 0764549685 With improved topics that include KD3 and GNOME2, this well-balanced text is a respectable one-stop shop for followers of ‘Red Hat Linux 8 Operating System’. The layout of this book is fantastic. Every aspect of the software (including installation and configuration) received generous attention. The overall outlook of the book (and its attached CD-ROM) indicates that a beginner can handle it; although that I would recommend it for an intermediate or advanced user of the software.

Product: 0596009119 Linux Desktop Hacks: Tips & Tools for customizing your OS By Nicholas Petreley and Jono Bacon O’Reilly Press ISBN 0596009119 Reviewed by Steven Mullins HuNTUG member Having loads of fun with your OS! One of the lures of Microsoft is that it’s very simple. One of the reasons we choose to run Linux is the fact that it gets rid of all the extras that we have no real use for.

Product: 111846446X I really enjoyed this book. I was completely ignorant of the Linux OS and was just recently introduced to the Raspberry Pi Computer, so this book was a no-brainer to have! It did not disappoint! I had no idea it was so similar to Unix, but that should have been obvious…doh! It has been a tremendous help and would recommend it to anyone who has no idea what the Raspberry Pi Computer is all about!

Product: 0470467010 Sadly, This Book is Seriously Limited. After several days use you will find that you need to install printers and serious apps, not the generally outdated stuff on the Linux-embedded Software Manager Installation app inside your Linux OS. And you will quickly find that this book is of no help whatsoever doing these tasks. NONE. ZIP. NADA. Save your money, install your distro via the free or paid downloads commonly available, then visit several of the free websites like linuxquestions.

Product: 0596009305 You can skip pretty much all of the other fat Linux books on the groaning shelves of bookstores. Most of them are packed with hundreds of pages of irrelevant fluff. This book is the only one you need. Nutshell exhaustively discusses every key networking utility and daemon, every shell function in the Linux operating system, with every command option and argument covered and nothing mistakenly left out. And it’s not a rehash of the Man pages, a lot of additional insight is provided on every page of this book.

Product: 0596004826 I have always wanted to try Linux. I built three or four linux boxes over the years, I think the first was RedHat 5.2. I set them up, loaded Linux, not without some difficulty with the first distros, and looked at them. I played Solitare. I played some of the games, like Mah Jong. I looked at them. Then I formatted the drive and went back to Windows. I could not get far past the desktop, I could not get the next step: OPERATION.
