Product: 1590594584 After more than 10 years experience with windows operating system, I plan to extend my knowledge into Linux operating system. I choose this book to study about SUSE. I found this book is written very clear and easy to understand, you do not need to have any experience with Linux before reading this book. I also found some point that is and strength and weakness compare to windows. If you never use windows before, it might be a little bit difficult to you because most of explanation in this book is compare to feature in windows.

Product: 013147751X I started dabbling with linux last year after a problem installing software caused my Windows XP system to crash, requiring a rather time consuming re-install. Coupled with the numerous security concerns and performance issues, as well as an interest in learning how to program, I decided to switch over to linux. Switching from linux is not an easy process, but if you want to learn about the ins and outs of that machine on your desk, running Linux will help.

Product: 151182607X This book is a helpful reference for Linux commands. In the past I’d either have to thumb through a thick book (where they pad the page count) or go through man files on the actual computer I’m using. I’d also have to google search and go through pages and pages of forums to find the commands I needed. This is far better because I can easily search for what I want on the browser, iPad, Kindle, etc.

Product: 0764579010 I have been searching for a resource to assist me in learning assembly language for a long time. I purchased a couple books but they only focus on linux in a mininmal way. Linux is the primary focus of this book. I have found this book the best assembly book for a linux user to learn assembly. Rating: 5 0764579010 Count: 12

Product: 0380815931 This short book is a sardonic and witty history of the software that drives personal computers, written by a guy who actually understands how these things work well enough to explain it with great metaphors. The passage where he compars MS-DOS, Apple, and Linux to three car dealerships on the same corner is worth the price of the book. If you like Neal Stephenson’s books you should like this, though it’s a touch drier than his novels.

Product: LINUX: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide! I found little value in this book as a learning tool. I have many years of programming experience and I have read many computer books over the years. Perhaps that is why I found so little value in this book. Someone who has never worked on a computer before might gain a little knowledge from this book but I can’t imagine such a person starting out on a Linux system instead of Windows or Apple systems.

Product: 0596005288 The first thing I want to say about reading this book is : I passed! Certification books serve four purposes: first, they serve as a way to prepare for computerized certification exams. Second, they provide a training plan for learning the objectives in the certification. Third, can a book explain system administration concepts while limiting a readers exposure to difficult, elusive topics until later? Fourth, can a book like this still be useful post-certification?

Product: 0131367366 I’ve been working on linux for more than a year, and this was a book assigned for a class. Since then, I’ve bought four other linux books. But this one is usually the first book I will consult regardless. The problems with the book are: that the book is very old, and that it doesn’t discuss newer versions of Netscape and Red Hat and other tools. Linux has gotten a lot more user friendly, and this book won’t provide a lot of help about using the most modern window manager.
