Product: 1886411484 It’s a book for beginners that concentrates on the console commands and programs. It was mostly review for me, and I’m just a novice in Linux. I’ve been kicking around with it for 6 or 7 years just on a very casual basis (a few minutes a week, really) and I guess I was hoping for something that could advance me to the next stage of understanding, but all it did was reincforce some things I already knew and introduced a few I didn’t.

Product: 0066620732 In Just for Fun, Linus Torvalds, the Finnish creator of the Linux operating system, mixes his personal story, told in both narrative and e-mail dispatches, with the saga of his development of the Linux operating system. Torvalds’ personal account makes the book fascinating. He began as a self-proclaimed nerd (and even a jerk) who labored to create an operating system in his garage and eventually became the head of the world’s largest open source project.

Product: 1450588301 I love this little Linux/Unix book, it lists a good useful collection of commands that will get you through most tasks easily and it will not bend your book shelf or put your back in traction doing it. I keep this book close to my Mac and use the giant Unix tombs which are great reference works to hold the foundation of the house in place. Rating: 5 1450588301 Count: 7

Product: The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction When I downloaded this book I was completely unfamiliar with use of the command line. By the time I was a third of the way into the book I was very excited about what I was leaning. Another reviewer complained that the author did not present enough detail on some subjects, but I think that is unfair. Clearly, since the book starts with the very basic techniques it is directed toward people like me- people who are not familiar with command line techniques.

Product: 0764547976 Nuts and bolts information only. No frills, no fluff nor are there tutorials that are so unrealistic to real world applications. The author does an excellent job of getting to the point and explaining features of Red Hat 6.1 quickly and concisely. Usually, the Red Hat webpage has the answers to most questions when you can filter out the useless fluff to find the information you need. Since searching Red Hat’s webpage for answers to your questions now yields more useless discussion forum questions of someone who wants to install the latest peripherials on yesterday’s hardware, yesterday’s kernel, and yesterday’s Red Hat version 2 than meat to solve problems at hand, I bought this book to be quicker and more efficent to find the information I need to use for daily administration of the Red Hat servers I maintain at work to keep co-workers, management, and customer’s happy.
