Product: 0764579010 This book should not carry the word Professional in the title - it is basic - very basic at best. This book is all about the Intel architecture - e.g. Intel processors. The target audience for this book - as stated in the introduction - is C/C++ programmers interested in converting their (Linux) C/C++ programs to assembly language. Consider this book if you know nothing of assembly language and you want to play around with it in a Linux on Intel hardware environment.

Product: 1118531744 I bought this book for two purposes– to refresh my Linux skills, and to start preparing for either the Linux Plus or the LPIC certifications. I think, from my short ownership of this book, that it fits both nicely. The book covers the Linux Plus 101 and 102 curriculum nicely, supplemented, of course, by real life experience. No book will, in itself, prepare you for these exams. I use the book in conjunction with 4 Linux systems I built at home, plus my work experience as a UNIX engineer.

Product: 1590596749 I have several Suse Linux guides, this is the latest and by far the best book on Suse Linux I have come across. I’m not quite a newbie but have been using Suse for about a year so I am familiar with the basics. This book takes the reader from the basics through to some quite complex subjects but always remains easy to read. I’m no spring chicken and sometimes information retention is a bit slow but I found this book covers the topics in an easy to remember way.

Product: 0596003439 I’m fairly new to Unix but have been using Linux for 2 to 3 years and have to say that from my extensive collection of Unix/Linux books this one stands tall above the others. This is a big book and is crammed with relevent and timely information, easy to read but concise and to the point. Lots of good examples are used to explain the topics and it has saved my life more than once.

Product: 013143697X When first embarking on a new journey into a programming language, the average traveler might want a map and a compass to show them where they are, where they’re going and how to get there. If where you are is Java newbie and where you want to be is programming Java apps on the Linux platform, then Java Application Development on Linux is a map and compass you can use to get from here to there.

Product: 0789735318 I’ve been reading through this book for the CEH based on it’s high reviews here at amazon. I have not yet taken the CEH but am writing this review based on my current findings as a general security practitioner. I’ve read the majority of the book, and while some sections are alright, I find others disturbing… Chapters 1-3 seemed fine, covering concepts i would expect to see on the exam.

Product: Running Linux This book explains everything you need to understand, install, and start using Linux OS. This was the course book we used in my (intro to linux/unix class) and really I could have just bought this book and read it and wrote the exam and passed with out showing up once to class. This book makes learning Linux very easy and has exellent content. IT’S A MUST BUY! for linux users.

Product: 0672327201 This is the best book in my opinion for learning about the kernel! Even if you are doing driver development or just embedded system work, I highly recommend this as the text for learning the linux kernel. It goes over the scheduler, how processes are represented, memory management, devices, system calls, and many kernel data structures. Each topic is covered quite well with relevant CODE and information. Very straight-forward.
