Product: LINUX Beginner’s Crash Cours I am interested knowing technologies in this generation and I do a bit programming too. They told me that Linux is the best operating system for me. I am reading few guides about Linux and I luckily got this book. This book let me know the overview of Linux. I learned the different components of Linux. These are great tutorial in this book and I feel that I really need this kind of OS.

Product: 0470411546 Having already had an eeePc for eight months when I got this book, I thought I knew most of what I needed to know about my small machine, but I was wrong. This book is really useful, both for new owners and old. First of all, it is clearly set out and easy to follow. It starts out with comparisons of all the models available (up to publication), and goes on to explain the basic steps a first time user needs to take.

Product: 0132396556 The people who gave this book 5 starts are either friends of the author, the author himself, or guys who have been writing linux drivers for years and felt like reading what they already knew. Although the author seems to be very knowledgeable on the topic, his book is really terrible at explaining the essential kernel functions needed for writing device drivers and their respective parameters. He only mentions that they exist.

Product: LINUX: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide! Linux was always a system I had never touched, until I read this book. It gives you everything you need to start from no knowledge to a working understanding in a way that is not overly-complicated and difficult. I still use it as a line-by-line guide for those tricky parts. Very glad to have made this purchase and recommend to everyone interested or struggling with Linux software.

Product: 0131861506 I am giving it 4 instead of 5 only for being a little rpm-ized, (as I am a fan of Debian). Even if you know almost everything, this book can help as a sumarized how-to of many things you’ll need to setup at a given time. Rating: 4 0131861506 Count: 8

Product: 1507836996 I was always a windows fan so I decided to try linux but I was having difficulties with it. After buying this book, I find that linux is much more clear to me and easier to understand. This book definitely didn’t disappoint me and proved to teach me many things that I did not previously know about Linux. Definitely recommend this! Rating: 5 1507836996 Count: 7

Product: 0764547976 I’ve found this book to be a great introduction to Red Hat Linux. I’ve been using Linux on and off for the last few years, but I’ve only ever had a superficial understanding of it. This book was very useful in helping me figure out what’s going on with Red Hat 7, including specifics on the boot sequence. The book also has good introductory chapters on Samba and Apache; enough to get you started at least.

Product: 0380815931 in The Beginning…was the Command Line actually managed to change my perception of how operating systems work. While Stephenson’s arguements might be a tad moot in light of Apple’s recent change to unix and recent change intel (Stephenson himself now uses OSX) his ability to make the arguement for open-source developers and operating systems like linux is compelling. At the heart of Stephenson’s arguement is one simple fact: linux is more dependable than any commercial OS currently operating out there and best of all it’s free.

Product: 0201187604 This book is an excellent general survey of operating systems concepts. At 941 pages, it packs a lot into those pages. Apart from a good historical survey of most important issues over 64 years of operating system conceptual history since general purpose commercial computers emerged from the shadows of world war two, it could be criticised as only dealing in depth with Linux and Windows. Older important sophisticated operating systems such as VMS are mentioned with in almost no depth.

Product: 0596000715 This book is no different from RedHat installation manuals/information that can be read on the web for free. Horrid as a reference manual. Buy ‘Running Linux’ instead. ISBN 156592469X. Regret that I ever bought this book. In addition it is old (RedHat 7.2 and not 8.0). Rating: 1 0596000715 Count: 12
