Product: 1597495867 This book does an excellent job introducing the reader to the many tools available on Linux for performing CyberForensics. It was a text book for my course and was very valuable even to me as someone already familiar with Linux. It may be a little dated now, some steps are not required as the software has been improved since this was published. Which is why it is only getting 4 stars.

Product: 0131478230 I got this as a textbook for an Intro to Unix class. I’ve found reading straight through (1-2 chapters per week) very informative and somewhat enjoyable. There is lots of information presented in a coherent manner. Things really start to make sense. The examples are simple to follow. I recommend this book for people who want to learn Linux (any distro) or who want to do more with their Mac OS (there are whole sections of the book explaining how it is different and how to do things) as well as for a reference for beginning and intermediate users.

Product: Linux for Beginners: An Introduction to the Linux Operating System and Command Line I am fairly new to using Linux, and was really happy with this guide. It is clear, straight-forward, and easy to understand. The author, Jason Cannon, does a very good job explaining all of the information one needs to know to get started with Linux, and how to apply that knowledge in a practical manner. I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Product: 0470404833 As with all Sybex study guides I have used I would rate this one as five stars. However, the formatting for the Kindle is terrible. That’s not Amazon’s fault. It’s typically the author or his/her publishing staff that didn’t check the formatting before uploading it. It is usable but very annoying because it will put spaces in the middle of Linux commands and you have to interpret the information you are reading to mentally correct for the errors.

Product: 0071545883 I thought about giving this book 2 stars, but decided on 3. It isn’t a bad book, which 2 stars would indicate. There are key parts of this book where it is very vague when defining or explaining things. I guess I was spoiled by Linux the Textbook (Or Unix the Textbook) by Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Robert Koretsky, and Syed Aqeel Sarwar. I feel like if Soyinka would have chopped out some of the sections and focused on some more depth, this has the potential to be a 5 star book.

Product: 1119277655 Linux Server Security, Hack and Defend is a slim volume with the goal of helping the Linux system admin get a kick-start in making their servers harder to exploit. Chris Binnie breaks his slender volume into short chapters on a number of specific areas of exposure or what I would think of as attack surfaces. He presents attack methodologies and some approaches to detection, defense and avoidance using open source tools.
