Product: 0132757273 I highly recommend this book. It is one of the best Linux book I have ever read, and I have learned a lot from many chapters of this book. The tech information is accurated and very well explained and verified (with the exception on snmp chapter, which don’t seem to work well for me – maybe the software is updated after this book is published). The DVD of Fedora 15 is included in the book, so for those haven’t learn how to download and burn iso DVD, this will get you start quickly (and you can gain some time to lear how to burn iso image later).

Product: 0596100299 I’ve bought every edition of this book, and I’m happy to keep buying updates. The new edition has a lot of current stuff like subversion and Linux. Don’t compute without it. Rating: 5 0596100299 Count: 6

Product: Linux for Beginners: An Introduction to the Linux Operating System and Command Line This is another great book by Jason Cannon. He takes the time to break programming down into simple and easy to understand steps. The included screenshots and code examples are great support for what you are reading and they help you with fixing any errors in your code. This book will take you step by step through the program and is a great resource guide to use if you just need a refresher.

Product: 0672336936 This book will introduce you to Linux Ubuntu and walk you through a progressively deeper understanding of this excellent operating system. Includes a DVD to install Ubuntu 13.10 and an offer to receive Ubuntu 14.04 (currently released as of April 18, 2014). After using MS Windows for 20 years I am very happy to switch completely to Ubuntu and the open source system. This book makes all that possible.

Product: Linux for Beginners: An Introduction to the Linux Operating System and Command Line I bought this book as a complete new comer to computers and Linux. This is NOT a book for either pursuits. The author provides little or no overview or background and jumps straight into Linux commands and structures with little to no help for new users. If you are already computer savvy and understand Linux then you might find this book helpful as a reference.

Product: 0132354136 Good beginner book on Ubuntu Linux which is the easiest Linux OS I know off. I use Kubuntu which is also mentioned in the book. I use it for controlling a Computer Numercial Control milling machine and a CNC lathe. I also use it for web browsing, CAD drawing, Office aplications, etc. Ubuntu linux has come along way in being the most plug and play and easiest to install.

Product: UNIX and Linux System Administration Handbook This book gives a good and comprehensive overview of the Unix systems and systems management, but if you only need to manage one or a few Linux computers e.g. for scientific computing then a lot of the material is not relevant, like networking, mail etc. The book covers several flavors of Unix, including Linux, Solaris, AIX etc so if you only need Linux there is also some material you don’t need, but of course if you have several different systems that would be pretty useful.

Product: 0596002130 My interest Ranges from admin to security to drivers. This book (or tome in many peoples eyes) is the utter definition of ‘internals explained’. I sat with this book and Linux Device Drivers 2nd Edition (also from O’Reilly) and practically obsessed! It’s generally very good for anyone who does /anything/ linux. You will learn how to communicate with the kernel, and get a great explanation of all kernel specific functions.

Product: 1118554213 The book is packed full of useful information and how-tos. The authors explain everything from the ground up. It’s easy to follow, easy to understand, and provides plenty of useful and interesting information. I particularly enjoyed the sections of projects like how to program a simple game with Scratch, how to program with Python, etc. Overall, highly recommend to anyone new to Pi, new to Linux, or wanting to expand their use/knowledge of a Pi.
