Product: 1494861275 Daniel has done a great job in setting up a functional, easy to read, easy to navigate beginners guide to Kali Linux. The tools he uses in the book and the tactics to create an easy to build environment for learning pen-testing is superb! I have been seen at airports while reading this and people always come to me and ask my opinion on this book and topics. It is simple, I tell them to get it!

Product: How Linux Works Excellent coverage of internals, rationale, and power tips for Linux - just as it’s promised on the book. I would say that the first half of the book is much better than the second half - the first half goes into much more detailed explanations of the topics, whereas the second half (or maybe last third) is more of a quick summary of items. Perhaps the author ran out of time and was hurried by the end?

Product: 1449362346 With my uber geek hubby loving Linux, it was only natural that he would order the first production of Raspberry Pi computers (remember when they had a long waiting list? He was on that for months!!) With several of these little computers in our home now, having this book of hacks has given him new ways to use the mini computers and try new things! Although I an not a techy person at all, I understood many of the things they were saying in this book, too.

Product: 1518635504 I take Linux as complicated compared to other systems. But when I got to go over and read this book, I found out that it is not that as complicated as I thought. This book provides a very detailed step by step guide from the very basic through creating your keywords. There examples being provided too in which it makes you practice and input what you learn. This is really a complete and detailed guide in learning Linux easily.

Product: 0321159985 Is Linux ready for the desktop? You bet! This book covers everything to get you started, from what to expect installing Linux (including how to keep your Windows™, if you want) to Word Processing, surfing the web, email, the works. Written in Mr. Gagne’s usual crisp style it gets you through the technical parts without feeling technical. It’s a fun read and the CD will even let you try Linux out without installing anything on your PC.

Product: 0596002564 This book covers the older SAMBA 2.0 which has a set of solutions for 10-year old Windows NT domain era of obsoleted technologies. There is some small mention of SAMBA 3.0 in the later edition, but it is still 98% SAMBA 2.0 based, which is far too overdocumented. Even if this was SAMBA 3.0, it might not be enough because really the newer SAMBA 3.0.20 has made incredible breakthroughs in interoperability with Windows 2000⁄2003 ActiveDirectory single-sign-on solutions.

Product: 0596006438 Overall, I find this book to be an enjoyable read. I thumb through it time and time again, and come up with some useful hints and tips (not really necessarily hacks though). It’s more oriented toward BSD Unix and Linux, but I did find some useful hints for Windows (the current topic of my studies). I really like the plug for ntsyslod (hack 56), which can take binary event logs and route them to syslogd service.

Product: The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction Great introduction to the Linux o/s. Bought this to help me learn more about using the Raspberry Pi and Arduino. So far, I’ve learned a ton from this that was glossed over on online forums and tube searches. More useful than any college text I’ve ever had, and doesn’t double as a sleep aid. Product: 1540461351 Not really enough info here if you are starting from scratch with moving to Linux from something else. I expected more of a step by step process for real beginners. My experience in implementing Linux Cinnamon Mint was far beyond what this book offered. Rating: 3 1540461351 Count: 6

Product: 0596004826 I’ve used Unix on and off for over 20 years, and I’ve never gotten an appreciation of the on-line documentation. So when I decided to dabble with Linux, I went searching for a command reference. This is the one! All you need to know about the command line programs as well as additional chapters on the top window managers, editors, shells, resource control, boot managers, and other topics that seem to come up frequently.
