Product: 1590595874 I’m the first to admit that my graphical skills are limited. I have a version of PaintShop Pro that’s a few revs out of date, and it does just what I need it to do… crop images, circle items of note, and erase the stray word or two. I’ve downloaded GIMP before, but I just don’t have the time or motivation to explore all the options it appears to have.

Product: 1590593162 I recently finished reading and reviewing the book Computer Security for the Home and Small Office by Thomas C. Greene (Apress). While it does seem to lose focus a bit towards the end and has a definite bias (which I agree with!), the overall content and information is vital to know and understand. The chapter breakdown: Introducing the Dark Side; Vectors; Social Engineering; From Newbie to Power User; Treasure Hunt; The Open-Source Escape Hatch; Trust Nothing, Fear Nothing; Glossary; Procedures, Processes, and Ports; Online Resources; Index

Product: 1118554213 I keep very few books at home. A few references for the most part. Did find this very helpful in learning about Raspberry Pi. Originally borrowed from public library and then bought one. Very good description of Linux commands and file structure. Rating: 5 1118554213 Count: 9

Product: 059600222X This book was a highly recommended reference book at my previous job at an embedded systems company. As the title of the book suggests, this text gives the reader a good foundation on the concepts required to build an embedded Linux system. Rating: 4 059600222X Count: 6

Product: 0596000715 My only mistake about buying this book is it wasn’t my first one. I really think it does an awesome job of taking you thru most of the questions you’d have as a new user of Red Hat Linux, and explains things fully enough for now. When you’re finished with this, getting O’Reilly’s Running Linux is definitely a good follow-up purchase. It seems every question i went crazy trying to figure out with all of my advanced books, was right here in Learning Red Hat Linux.

Product: The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction A GREAT book for the noob (me) who is new to the Linux Command Line Interface. I would not use this book as a reference tool (there are tons of those out there) though it could work for that. Rather this book is meant to be read through–seriously. Each chapter builds on the preceding ones, increasing with complexity. It’s worth reading through because it provides context for the commands, which I have found is not often the case with reference material.

Product: 0130158070 I read most every security book that is released and this one is so exceptional in quality that I felt impelled to add a review. It covers all aspects of Linux security and has tons of practical tools and techniques for achieving security. All of the techniques and installations are well-explained and very detailed. Excellent book! Rating: 5 0130158070 Count: 5

Product: 0596002726 I could see this book saving new users a few months of finding out on their own and is a good reference book as well. It covers a lot of the need-to-know type of things. I’ve been using Linux for many years and still reference it sometimes. Rating: 4 0596002726 Count: 21

Product: 0764543733 This book has a lot of information. I see why people are let down by the next in the line (Advanced Linux Programming), stating it doesn’t advance enough–this one has a lot to it. That’s a good thing (for this book). Rating: 4 0764543733 Count: 7
