Product: 0470888458 Combined with previous training and experience, I used to this book to pass the Linux+ exam LX0-101. I just finished part two of this book which covers topics on Linux+ exam LX0-102. With that in mind, let me say that Mr. Smith should be commended for contributing such a useful text to the canon. Under the constraint of being a certification text, Mr. Smith has covered all the technical points of the Linux+ and added practical advice and anecdotes where appropriate.

Product: 0132757273 This is a good book to read about all things Linux and more. If you use CentOS 7, you should have a copy of this book. If you enjoy installing Linux from a minimal install, this book will show you how to get the network card configured without the GUI! You should be able to handle it from there. All in all, this is a great Linux book to own.

Product: 1590594444 I thought this might just be a book on iptables and other firewalls, but it’s much more. In 400 pages, this covers everything from initial installation right through what to do if you did get breached. It covers email security, ftp, dns and bind, ssh, file systems, pam authentication, firewalls, penetration testing and more. The really impressive thing is that everything is covered well - obviously some of these subjects could be hundreds of pages by themselves, but the author manages to succintly present the important concepts.

Product: 013236039X There is no doubt that this book contains very complete coverage of Ubuntu. My only question is, who wants it? The new user, never exposed to Linux before, is going to be scared off by the more technical parts of the book. The more experienced user who wants to find out about Ubuntu is going to be bored and annoyed by the coverage of basics (that coverage is very good, byt the way, as is the more technical stuff later).

Product: 1593277938 This is a solid manual on the acquisition, securing, managing and preserving of digital evidence. It’s a brave new world in both civil and criminal arenas and the rules of evidence are slowly evolving to address technological advances. This book is written in a spare text like manner. It is not a beginner’s manual. Good command of Linux systems is required. Given that, it is well organized and comprehensive.

Product: 1119277655 No system is invulnerable to attacks but this slim volume endeavors to provide guidance in protecting Linux servers. It is an adequate introduction that provides a decent overview. However the detail and instructions are lacking. I generally appreciate economy of words but this is really just enough to get you started. The style is readable and the illustrations are good. but it lacks the scope and depth to make it a resource.

Product: 0071545883 I’m guilty; I’ve been a Windows user for the longest time. However, I’ve always wanted to experiment with Linux, but the difficulty of most installations and the configuration headaches were just too m uch for me. This book is an excellent way to get people transitioning from a Windows environment into Linux. Comparisons of Windows configurations and their counterparts in Linux are strewn throughout this book, and the amount of detail is very helpful.
