Product: 0470147628 This book is an excellent place to start with programming in the Linux environment. Its a good overview of all bases in the Linux environment, it takes every major topic in Linux programming and gives the reader a good foundation and gives enough information to help the reader know where to go from there. If you are new to Linux programming and not sure where to start, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU.

Product: 0470038993 I’m a computer professional who is new to Linux. As Ubuntu seems to be what everybody raves about these days, I decided to take the plunge and bought this book as my guide. It’s not a bad book by any means, but it certainly has room for improvement as well. I see a mistake that a lot of technical type books make. The author takes very simple topics and explains them to the level of a 4-year old who doesn’t speak the language can understand (things like how to click the mouse).

Product: 0071545883 This book is for people who are beginners in Linux…but want to get into Linux System Administration… This book does a GREAT job into going into the basics on how to get a Linux Server up and running. Has some AWESOME configuration examples that actually get you up and running! I, to this day, still use the DNS configuration examples to set up DNS servers at my job today!

Product: 078214389X I bought this book because I had such good luck with Sybex. I got my A+ and Network+ with the Sybex books. But this one fell short….WAY short. I took the test after reading the book and taking the practice exams; and I also took 2 Linux classes (which is a year of Linux) at my school…and FAILED! I got a 570 (you need a 675 to pass). So I studied again for 3 more weeks and took the test for the second time…FAILED AGAIN!

Product: 0072253657 I used this book right before taking the exam and passed! This is a GREAT book! I have 2 years of Linux Admin experience and this book filled all the gaps that I had. If you read this book…and do ALL the labs (along with Red Hat’s documentation and prep guide); it will prepare you for the test. I personally didn’t take the class (I just took the test) and I passed using the labs in this book.

Product: 1518684777 This book gets a five from me because I learned. A circuit board with endless possibilities, RaspherryPi is explained in easy to understand language. The first thing I learned was RaspberrPi needs needs Linux and most of the software associated with Linux is free. The author went on to explain in easy-to-understand language how to set up RaspberryPi and informed me of the possibilities as well as the limitation.

Product: Linux Essentials The first several chapters give to the history of UNIX, after that you begin to get into the Linux Essentials as the title suggests. I bought the book as a required text for a class, but find it very useful. If you are new to UNIX/Linux this will give you great details, it is easy to read and easy to follow the examples. After reading the book I am comfortable working with Linux now both using the GUI and the command line.
