Product: Running Linux I bought the first edition of this when it forst came out. I bought the update because I’d come back to Linux after a gap and KDE/GNOME etc were now the norm. It filled in the gaps and the general quality of the information was as good as ever. There is no CD with this book but Linux is available everywhere these days so I prefer keeping the price low.

Product: Linux Bible The book is pretty much well written and does contain a lot of good info, however Ive got to drop my rating for the overly-hyped marketing. While the author is clear that the team putting this together is a fully Red Hat group the covers & write-ups claim …a focus on the latest version of Red Hat…Fedora…and Ubuntu…. Yes, Ubuntu is regularly mentioned and a few Ubuntu instructions are presented but understand that the book really is about Red Hat/Fedora and just barely scratches any Debian products.

Product: 1449316697 I had read the first edition, highlighting an occasional important fact for my review later, and to quicken looking up facts I need. When I got the 2nd edition, I first tried to copy my highlights from the 1st edition to the 2nd. About 80% of my highlights are no longer there, things you need to know to really use Linux to the best. The 2nd edition has been watered down, try to get the 1st edition if you can.

Product: 0782127355 Linux System Administration does a great job of covering a vast amount of Linux topics with just the right amount of detail for most users. This book appeals to a wide variety of readers, it is written in way that doesn’t scare off newbies, but manages to have enough meat for experienced Linux users. The great thing about this book is it spends a fair amount of time explaining how to do things on a variety of distros.

Product: 0066620732 This book is great if your have some knowledge of Linux and the open source community. The best part is towards the end when you get Linus’s moderate opinions of a variety of topics. I just started using Linux in the past few years and I always thought that Linus shared the same views as Richard Stallman. This is not the case at all, it turns out Linus has really practical views when it comes to open source software and IP in general.

Product: 0619130040 Just OK, do not get if you are new to Linux. It is based on Fedora linux, old version but who cares? 90% of book is about working in BASH SHELL (command line) which is same with latest version of Fedora or even other Linux distros. I installed Kubuntu Linux but still I have no problem following book. Do not get latest version. In fact this version has a bit extra in comparison!

Product: 1849695105 I have recentlygrabbed a copy of Penetration Testing with the Bash Shell…. My observation is,there are security incidents all over, but there are very few booksavailable, yet it seems there are even fewer mature specialists tolearn from. Keith Makan surely is one of the top ones. My intent wasnarrow: to widen my knowledge on the penetration testing tactics, andI hoped to apply at least a few at work. This book helped.

Product: 1783982144 With the advent of the constantly connected computers (not only the Internet) the attack surface has increased immensely. At the same time the user machines became as powerful as the servers were. However, there was very little done to educate computer professionals to detect, prevent and cope intrusions or penetration attacks. Kali Linux Network Scanning Cookbook can serve very well as one to close the gap. A little on Kali Linux: it is a specialized distribution for penetration testing and forensics purposes.
