Product: 0596009305 Linux in a Nutshell, now in it’s fifth edition, is one of the classic works of Linux documentation. Much has changed with Linux in the two years since the fourth edition was published, and Linux in a Nutshell reflects those changes with several major changes to the book, while keeping the parts that worked from previous editions. What’s new? Linux in an Nutshell has grown since the early days of the first edition, not the least of which is the number of pages the book comprises of (924 pages).

Product: 1118531744 I recently passed the Linux+ exams and got the certification. Although I took a Linux class at a JC and used the book ‘Linux+ Guide to Linux Certification’ by Eckert which I would FAR recommend over this one, I did think this one complemented that one fairly well for shoring up a few issues on the exam study objectives which weren’t completely covered in Eckerts book. The good thing about this book is he tries to cover EXACTLY what is on the exam objectives in the book.

Product: 0619130040 This is a great book! The book used for my JC Linux+ class, which is basically what I used to learn and then pass the Linux+ exam on August 16, 2014! The only caveat I can think of is that it would be nice if Eckert creates a 4th edition soon, because this 3rd edition uses Fedora 13, and as of January 24, 2015, Fedora 20 is the current version!

Product: 0596100299 I’m taking a Introduction to Linux class. Its been years since I worked in a Unix environment, and I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a reference book. This seems to be man pages on paper. Not a bad thing, and the commands are grouped better. It breaks out the differences between Unix, Linux, and Apple’s OS, where appropriate. I like having this book, because when I’m in vi, for instance, I don’t want to break out of it, or open another terminal, just to look up a command, or its syntax.

Product: 0131478230 If you bought a RasPi and wanted a guide to help you with Linux, pass this book by. If you are an experienced Linux programmer and need a reference guide, this might work. I am not and it is still sitting on my desk, virtually unused. Rating: 2 0131478230 Count: 46

Product: 1430248211 This is one of five books I purchase from Amazon related to the Raspberry Pi. This book is well written and the author does not disrespect the reader and the material included adapts to all levels of expertise. I suggest one thing before you start reading this book, purchase the Raspberry Pi and all Raspberry Pi accessories. By the way, the reader is not familiar with Linux or Unix this book will be a great introduction.
