Product: The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction This is perfect for someone with little or no exposure to Linux CLI. It starts a user out with great basics and positions them to learn advanced functionality later on. Rating: 5 1593273894 Count: 86

Product: Linux Bible This review originally appeared in the AZTCS journal. There are things I don’t like about this book. In Chapter 3, I’m disappointed there isn’t more detail about alternate window managers. I think too many people feel KDE and GNOME are the only choices available … or the desktop is Linux … or don’t know they can start with a blank xwindow and make their own desktop and menus.

Product: 0596002874 This is a good book on Richard Stallman, the man behind GNU. Prior to reading this book, I had never even seen what he looks like, yet his work and dedication have had a great impact on my professional and academic career (I’ve been using GNU tools and compilers since my undergrad days in the early 1990s). It’s good to finally place a face and personality with GNU.

Product: Linux All-in-One For Dummies I took a Fedora 18 Linux class, had purchased this book to get up to speed a bit before class started. It was helpful, to a degree, demonstrating different Linux flavors. But the enclosed DVD and instructions required knowledge of hard drive partitions which I didn’t have, and assumed use of a computer with Windows already installed. I was afraid to damage my computer so I stopped.

Product: Linux Device Drivers A little outdated (but with the speed of kernel development, everything is). Focuses on simpler drivers, so not a very advanced book - but it will have the experienced C coder up to speed on Linux driver fundamentals in a reasonable time. Rating: 4 0596005903 Count: 15
