Product: 0596009305 I actually bought this for my son, who has recently become interested in Linux. I have owned a copy for several years. It is, without doubt, the most valuable computer book I own, and I open it at least three times a week–sometimes three times a day! Rating: 5 0596009305 Count: 15

Product: 178216815X Truthfully I haven’t loaded this distro yet but I certainly intend to in the near future. I have already read this book and refer back to it as I progress in my understanding of Linux’s various systems. I’m learning on LUbuntu first and then will switch over to Linux Mint Mate and Cinnamon as these two are what I really desire in my computer after Windows XP PRO.

Product: Linux for Beginner’s: Complete Guide for Linux Operating System and Command Line It’s an interesting little book that would give someone that is New to Linux a decent idea of what they’re going to get into IF they already haven’t. It doesn’t tell a person everything, but just enough to wet your whistle on deciding IF a Linux system is ‘Right for You’ vrs. an Apple or a Microsoft. Rating: 4 1511473738 Count: 11

Product: 0764543733 Every computer book should be like this one! Very easy to understand, yet still manages to reach depth of subject AND in MANY areas of Linux - definitely the best way to start Linux Programming! Rating: 5 0764543733 Count: 7

Product: 1590594584 As a total Linux ‘Noob’ (newbie, new user) I’ve just finished installing SUSE 9.1, dual booting with Windows XP, using the DVD that came with this book, and using the first few chapters as a guide. Here are my initial thoughts… Seems like a good book: good writing style, well edited, and a good value here on Amazon. The description of the installation process doesn’t quite match what I saw on screen.

Product: 1118554213 New to Linux? Heard about this $35 computer that can be used to make… anything? This book can guide you through those first steps of setting it up and walking you through a couple nifty projects. Once you’ve mastered the material, you can (and definitely should) try your hand at some of the more advanced projects you may have seen floating around the internet. Rating: 4 1118554213 Count: 9

Product: 0596002564 So, I got the 2nd edition of this book (which is out of date now) because I’m a cheap skate and I saw it on Amazon second hand for a rediculously low price (somewhere in the range of $1 - $2). For the most part, it was still pretty relevant. It was released just before Samba 3.0.x was rolled out (well, in that vicinity, anyway), and it does address some of the updates in the ‘new’ updated version.

Product: 0596006284 This is definitely a great companion for any Linux administrator or hobbyist who is trying to become a level 60 command line warrior. There are plenty of commands to familiarize yourself with, and they are grouped logically (rather than alphabetically), which means that when you look up a command, you can find other similar commands in the same section. This book was written with Fedora Core Linux in mind, so it may not cover some of the commands unique to other Linux distros.

Product: 0470082933 There appears to be a lot of Linux authors copying one another. Or perhaps the publishers are doing it. There is a serious need for a book of Linux command examples with all possible options. But that would require more than copying someone else s Linux book. Rating: 3 0470082933 Count: 18
