Product: 0072253657 I bought this book to get a premilinary insight into Linux and to move toward the path of certification. This book has served both as a guide to understanding basic Linux administration and as a solid reference. The material is based upon Red Hat 8, so newer Linux concepts such as Logical Volume Management are not covered. Useful for computer technicians learning the basics of Linux at a low cost.

Product: 013236039X Despite it’s length, this book avoids (for the most part) degenerating into a concatenation of man pages. The text is concise and accurate, as far as I can tell, and examples are short and to the point. I was a bit surprised that even though such a large book wouldn’t seem attractive for beginners, some of the basics (e.g. file systems) are discussed in great detail, but without much technical depth.

Product: 1590594444 A lot of people think Linux is bullet proof, but its not. If not configured correctly, it can be just as insecure as Windows. Hardening Linux is an important book in that it shows how to harden Linux to be very secure. Rating: 4 1590594444 Count: 8

Product: Linux Bible Linux moves in leaps and bounds, and while I bought this book when it came out almost everything contained in it is outdated. Linux has come a long way in the last six years, making this a paper weight. Rating: 1 0470230193 Count: 52

Product: 0764545744 When I decide to learn something new, I like to have two books: One, a step-by-step concise guide that just has me doing neat stuff, and two, a big reference manual. I like the O’Reilly book Learning Red Hat Linux as a guide to tell me what to learn next and giving basic instructions. But, when I needed more clarity on a topic, Red Hat Linux 7 Bible gave me lots of in-depth information.

Product: Linux Bible Mr. Negus is now on his 9th Edition of this gem of a book that is about 850 pages long. This is a great book for beginners as well as the Linux learned that want to learn more. The book is divided up into 6 (VI) parts: Getting Started (rudimentary topics), Becoming a Power User, a Sys Admin, a Server Admin, Security, and Cloud services. The chapters are short and concise.

Product: 0131488724 I think this book has the right idea but it is not executed well. I have some computer knowledge and as advertised the CD did boot. But the CD was not complete or was defective and some of the programs, open office for one, just would not boot properly. I installed the Linux version that came with the CD but without the main applications, the install was worthless. Also, I tried for many hours to connnect to my ISP using the KPPP and although they were helpful, I was unable to connect.

Product: Linux All-in-One For Dummies If you want to know Linux architecture and history, fine. If you’re looking to actually learn how to use it, don’t bother. Worst For Dummies book I’ve ever purchased. Already turned it in as a used book at the local used bookseller for credit. Rating: 1 0470770198 Count: 13
