Product: 0596005288 I have a growing disdain for Microsoft and turned to Linux a few years ago. The only problem with that is that Linux, like Unix is very powerful and has many wonderful tools to do things a Windows box would never do. (Like host multiple Windows domains on a single Linux computer with Samba, heh.) The problem? It would take years to learn on your own what you can get from a Linux certification in a few weeks of study.

Product: 1494295504 I bought this book mostly because it was only $9.00 USD. But, it rounds up the most useful commands for many subjects in Linux, Unix and Windows command lines. Sure, you could search google for these answers but you can’t search for what you don’t know exists. If you study this book from cover to cover, you’ll have a good, working knowledge of the subject matter. Rating: 5 1494295504 Count: 9

Product: 0066620732 As a huge fan of Linus Torvalds and The Linux Revolution, I waited in great anticipation for this book. Although at face value the book is pretty good, I expected a lot more. We got to hear some things on Linus’ world view and his background, but we would’ve been better rewarded with a more in depth analysis of the state of the wired and computer world, and how computing can be improved through deep proliferation of Linux.

Product: 0672336243 I’m a 20-year veteran of Windows-based computing. This was the second book I bought to support my first attempt to deploy a Linux-based IT infrastructure. It was more than good enough for me to set up a laptop, a server and a rudimentary Apache / PHP / MySQL web site. The first book, despite being only 18 months old, was hopelessly out of date. Enough has changed between Ubuntu’s version 12 and 13 that few of the examples it offered were easy to follow.

Product: 1418837237 Got this for a class in college. The text seems to be well done, augmented with a ton of screen captures. But there is a lot of incorrect info that no longer applies to any distribution of Linux. Rather, the text even admits it in a few places, that the operating systems it comes with (Fedora and Knoppix) don’t support some of the functions in the exercises it WANTS you to do.

Product: 1517392772 Linux is new to me. I loved how this book is written. This book was really prepared for the beginners. The author had illustrated the history, importance, works, scopes and many more. It also taught me how to install Linux in my system and installing software while using Linux. The book defined each term in detail but still I found it a little bit hard. May be its because I am new or maybe I need more practice for it.

Product: 1517392772 The author spent way too many pages extolling the virtues of Linux, and too few pages detailing how to use it. On top of that, he was too lazy to format the book for the Kindle release. When he starts on the commands section, he uses ‘outdents’ which causes the first few characters of each command to be cut off. This leaves the reader frustrated and makes half the book worthless.

Product: The Linux Programming Interface: A Linux and UNIX System Programming Handbook Mr. Kerrisk did an amazing work in this book. I purchased this book one year ago, on July 2012, and since then it has served me pretty well. I can not count how many times I faced a technical doubt and I found a enlightening explanation in this book. This book covers almost all aspects of Linux low-level application programming: file I/O, IPC, process management and threads to name a few.

Product: 0132757273 I knew almost nothing about Linux. Sobell has laid the book out very logically, and proceeds to describe the Fedora Linux system in sufficient detail for one to feel comfortable mucking around with command lines and superuser status. I’m about one-fourth of the way through the book; I’m confident that, when I’m finished, I’ll be able to get my Fedora system working exactly as I would like it to work.
