Product: The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction Working in the IT field I have always used Linux in some form or another. Most have been common release distro’s where you could get by navigating just the GUI. I however wanted to dig a bit deeper and set up a Ubuntu server for media and archived school work. I picked up this book to get a better overview of what is capable when using shell commands and the answer is everything.

Product: 0143114948 The book begins with an intriguing story of a girl who found a cellphone that was forgotten in a cab and later refused to return it to the owner. It happened in New York in May 2006 and was reported widely on the Internet as well as in New York Times. This story demonstrates the power of Internet crowd. They are powerful enough to change the course of action of government.

Product: 0131429647 I learned about this book from its sister book, Linux Kernel Primer: A Top-Down Approach for x86 and PowerPC Architecture. While the kernel book is not a good one at all, this one is a true gem. The writing is clear, lucid, and the examples are from the real world and thoroughly explained. In contrast, the kernel book gives overly broad and general introduction to a subject and then dives into the source code with disconnected commenting; there is such a big gap between the intro and the source code that it’s not readable at all.

Product: 0072253657 As an experienced system administrator (AIX, DG-UX, Linux, HP-UX - HP Certified) I have found this book to be very useful. It is not a beginners how to book, but lists a lot of very useful information for day to day work as well as for exam preparation. True, the included CD is aimed at Windows PCs, but it’s very easy to access the PDF files on a Linux system as well without using the Windows programs.

Product: 0596004826 I had the 3rd edition of this book, and the 2nd, and was really hesitant about getting this latest edition. After all, linux is pretty mature these days, isn’t it? Then I read the other reviews, and decided to get it. Glad I did so! Linux is still rapidly expanding, and it really helps to get the latest authoritative scoop, thanks to OReilly. Product: 1418837237 I ordered a Guide to UNIX Using Linux for an introductory UNIX-Linux course at my university because it was the required text book. I was a bit nervous never having used UNIX-Linux in any meaningful way before much less programming in it. This book made it easy, as it is written for true beginners. The hands on projects at the end of each chapter basically spell everything out for you, which was especially helpful with those complicated to understand awk commands.
