Product: 0596003307 This book is a great reference for Unix/Linux system administrators or powerusers (as well as Mac OS X which has a BSD base.) This isn’t meant to be read straight through, but referenced when there is a problem that you can’t just seem to find or recall the answer to. In Unix, there are multiple ways to do things and this book will also show you some of the other ways to accomplish tasks in Unix that you might not already know, potentially saving some significant time.

Product: 0596006284 I was often reluctant to buy this kind of books. Often because I think the same info can be found on the Internet. But in the case of this book, I liked it. The presentation is easy to carry with you, choose a topic and see the commands related to the given topic. There is nothing new in the book, however it is a good quick reference guide for new and old Linux users.

Product: 1119188687 Other readers have commented that this book is the most complete user documentation for running and interfacing the Raspberry Pi Microcontroller. That is undoubtedly true. But this handbook is also the most up-to-date and comprehensive guidebook, to Using and Interfacing Embedded Linux Systems regardless of their type; it also is a comprehensive guidebook to Physical Computing going from blinking on-board LED’s, to prototyping GPIO interfaces, connecting your own ADC/DAC and Sensor / Actuator Devices through SPI and I2C.

Product: 1430218894 In the days that I and others were first exposed to the canonical Unix Operating System (in my case DIGITAL’s Ultrix) users needed to learn the Bourne Command Shell and the Variety of Text and File Manipulation tools as well as at least a basic grasp of the C-Programming language. Today, Graphical Tools available in all Linux Distributions make many of the User and Systems Administration tasks that must be accomplished by the home and business user a simple matter of pull-down menu’s and graphical selections.

Product: The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction Very few things in the realm of computers remain reliable and relatively constant for over 25 years; but the common core of Linux (and previously Unix) functionality have been powerful tools and relatively consistent since the days of System V ATT and Berkeley Distributions which I learned to love over a quarter century ago. Windowing systems and graphical user interfaces change between even contemporary Linux Distribution: UBUNTU, KUBUNTU, Fedora, Debian, SuSE, Red Hat; but an amazingly powerful common functionality exists among all Linux systems and similar tools in the Windows world (the Gnu utilities, MKS Shell, Cygwin, etc).

Product: 1430219998 This comprehensive introduction to the Ubuntu Linux Distribution recognizes that users from the MS Windows and Macintosh Camp will be making their first steps into the powerful Linux Operating System with trepidation. Yet this introduction which does guide the Newbie into a worry-free installation and early use of Linux also recognizes that the user must administer their own system on a variety of hardware environments, and that they seek competence in full use of this powerful operating system in a way that goes beyond graphical baby steps.

Product: 1449345379 Matt Richardson a prominent Maker who also wrote the excellent Getting Started manual on Raspberry Pi and is a Masters student at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program has prepared an excellent handbook on the powerful Beaglebone (and Beaglebone Black). The Beaglebone most recently released for $45 in the Beaglebone Black model has several advantages over both existing Arduino models and the Raspberry Pi. Like the Pi the Beaglebone runs the powerful Linux operating system on a faster and more powerful processor.

Product: Ubuntu Made Easy The authors have considerable experience (and it shows) with documenting Linux and in particular, the Ubuntu Distribution. Rickford Grant is the author of two other fine volumes documenting Ubuntu and Linux, and Phil Bull is an author and member of the official documentation team both for Ubuntu and the Gnome GUI project. This exciting handbook takes a unique project oriented approach leading a novice either with the Linux Operating System or with the Ubuntu Distribution through the most necessary activities of installation, updating, accommodating various hardware (e.

Product: 013254248X First, I’m glad there are people who take the time to write such a comprehensive book as this. It suited me & helped me understand a lot about using the command line & a lot of the nuisances & idiosyncrasies of Linux & various utilities. By taking the time to patiently read careful & understand each topic I’ve gained a lot of confidence to use Linux. Although there are a few chapters I haven;t finished, I can now use the book as a good reference when needed.

Product: 1593273835 This hefty volume claims to be your source of information and guidance to nearly everything [GIMP]. And indeed, at first glance at the Contents in Detail, the book does seem to meet the challenge of the sub-title’s boast. The Book of GIMP is divided into three sections: Learning GIMP, Reference, and Appendices. I jumped into Part 1, Chapter 2, Photograph retouching. The sample image used reminded me of a potentially interesting pic my sister took with her cell phone on a recent visit.
