Product: 1453689923 While this book is helpful in learning some Linux commands used by all distros, I found it was a bit outdated with regards to CentOS. I believe the book was geared towards a CentOS 6.5 version. This book is not helpful if you aren’t running the specified version of CentOS. With CentOS version 7, many of the examples in this book are no longer valid or many warning messages are received due to the use of outdated commands.

Product: 0066620732 Just for Fun is a book that chronicles Linus’s life and the birth of Linux. Along the way, it presents a fascinating look at the forces that led to the creation of Linux, the controversies, the proponents, and the opponents. For those who want to understand the unlikely hero who created a freely available open source operating system, this book is enlightening, inspiring, and informative. My only criticisms about the book are due primarily to Dave Diamond’s contributions, which thankfully, are minimal.

Product: 0596008015 Linux Annoyances for Geeks is a guide to help system administrators fine tune their systems for themselves and their users. The text compares various tweaks and modifications across several popular distributions. It’s part cookbook and part procedural manual for making modifications to Fedora/Red Hat, Debian, and SUSE systems for both Gnome and KDE desktops. The book was published in 2006. As such, some of the material is a bit dated.

Product: How Linux Works This book is a great learning tool for new Linux users and a good refresher for people who have years of experience. I’m a retired systems engineer and have been using Linux since 1994, and I found a lot of interesting information in this book. I plan to keep it on my shelf for reference where I’m sure it will get quite a bit of use.

Product: 0143145088 Rating 4.25 In this book, Pink brings a unique discussion to the table. Discussing intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. He points to many studies showing how people are much more productive using intrinsic motivation. He points to Wikipedia and Linux as examples of how if people are doing what they want to do they will produce more than if they are just being paid. This book is a great conversation starter and leaves me asking more questions (which I think was his point).

Product: 0066620732 One reason I rated this audio CD so low was the packaging - The 5 CD’s aren’t labeled. This made change CD’s in the car difficult. - As far as I could tell, the CD’s were all just one track. Most recorded books put a chapter on each track. In my car CD player, they way you forward is to skip to the next track. Not possible with this one.
