I consider myself technologically challenged and am in awe of writer who makes it easy for me to follow his guide and understand how to use Linux. It’s a lot easier than I thought and I am confident that I will be able to conquer Linux with the help of this book.

Product: 0201308215 I once read the previous version of this book and bought the 2nd edition for myself at work. It’s a well written book with lots of good practicle information to help you write and debug software on a Linux system. I do wish it had more information about shell scripts, but that’s about it. Product: Linux Bible I taught from Negus’s Fedora Core 3 book for several semesters at the local Community College. I found it to be as good a publication as the one that I’m reviewing now. There is a tremendous amount of information on the topic presented in a readable fashion and should be on the desktop of anyone who needs to support Linux systems and applications. That being said, however, it is not a text from which to teach people just learning LINUX/UNIX, because of the lack of support materials.

Product: 013254248X This is an excellent text and I am using as of this term as the textbook for the class in Linux that I am teaching at the local Community College. Product: 0596006403 Not a bad book, but it’s not for beginners…. but it’s not for longtime users, either. This book is good for those who have a Linux distro up-and-running (‘Ubuntu’, or ‘Mint’ perhaps), are comfortable using it, and wish to experiment with setting up some additional services using the command line and working with configuration files. If you’ve got more experience, then this simply rehashes what you’ve already learned – even if you don’t consider yourself an ‘expert’.

Product: 0071807837 The first eight chapters of ths book basically are just an introduction to Python. They have nothing to do with the Raspberry Pi, any Linux system would do. If the book had just chapters 9, 10, 11 and brief chapters on readily available Python on Linux, and maybe chapter 12, it would have been a better book at half the price. Product: 1590594584 This is a great book whether you’ve are an intermediate Linux user or a true novice. I had used Linux on and off but not really dove in to it like I had with MS Windows. After purchasing this book though I have completly migrated off of Windows and now use SUSE Linux full time. The book is great at using examples to help certain things stay in your head.
