Product: LINUX: Easy Linux For Beginners, Your Step-By-Step Guide To Learning The Linux Operating System And Command Line I found the book very helpful and straightforward. This book help me understand Linux which I’ve never used before. However, there’s a good chance that these programs will also be compiled and executed from the command line as well, if only because this is the correct way to do it which will make you the most intimate with your tool, the computer.

Product: 0596000715 this is one of those books that is excellent for getting your toes wet. It reminds me of my granddad teaching me how to swim. He threw me in the water and made sure I didn’t drown. That’s about how this book is. Not so much info that it drowns you and a few pointers. not good for people allready familiar with Linux though. Strictly a beginners book Rating: 4 0596000715 Count: 12

Product: 0596001088 I like this book for many reasons. First of all, it uses lots of specific examples to prove a point. Two, the author was right at the front lines during the formative days of Linux and open source and he does not hide his biases. Three, he is a very insightful guy and he sure as heck knows how to turn a phrase. That said, the book is not that far removed from a polemic.

Product: The Linux Programming Interface: A Linux and UNIX System Programming Handbook I’ve been doing Linux systems programming nearly my entire career (16 years so far…), and this is the most valuable resource I’ve found. This goes WAY beyond the manual pages available online. Before owning book, I used the Stevens Advanced Unix Programming book for years. This is definitely a step up. It is more current (covering more recent specifications) and contains more detailed implementation information.

Product: UNIX and Linux System Administration Handbook This book is annoyingly thorough. You will not likely be helped if you are trying to drill down into a specific product but it will definitely give you an exhaustive general knowledge of UNIX and Linux administration. Everyone who does UNIX and/or Linux administration should have this as a reference on their desk. Rating: 5 0131480057 Count: 29
