Product: Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything The theme of this book is simple enough to understand and clearly stated at the beginning of the book: More minds and new technologies are allowing more people to share information and ideas, collaborate and innovate in ways the world has never seen, all of which will lead to more rapid and innovate change in the way we live our lives and interact with each other.

Product: 1680451839 Every once in a while, you come across a tech manual that hits it targets perfectly or close to it. This is one of them. Linux for Makers is intended for Makers people creating and inventing things who want to use Single Board Computers (SBCs) in their projects. Raspberry Pi and its brethren sound like a lot of fun until you realize that these little wonders require a lot of computer knowledge before the will do anything.

Product: 0596009305 Getting a bit long in tooth, but Linux hasn’t changed that much since this was published in 2005. Much of it is a reprint of what you’ll find in the MAN pages, with better tyography and formatting. Not particularly helpful for the rank beginner, unless used as a secondary source. As a handy reference to Linux - truly Linux in a nutshell - it still has no equal in terms of comprehensiveness and ease of use.

Product: 1593277938 This is a much needed book is singularly focused on the use of Linux as a platform for performing computer forensics, in particular, forensic image acquisition and evidence preservation of storage media. Bruce Nikkel writes well and knowledgeably about this subject. He keeps his focus on the imaging process and he very clearly inows his stuff. Chapters 1 and 2 cover the essentials of computer storage systems and devices and the basic elements of Linux.

Product: 1491939982 For a variety of reasons, I am not an Apple fan. However, for the first time in 25 years I am considering purchasing an Apple Mac computer. Why? Versatility. As I move more deeply into video and audio production, there are some excellent apps out there that simply aren’t available for Windows. On a small, highly portable laptop, I can run the Mac OS, Windows and access the underlying Unix core of the Mac OS.

Product: Linux Bible Christopher Negus is an old hand at Linux and he definitely knows his stuff. His writing style is generally clear and not fatiguing to read. Where one can quibble is his choice of points to emphasis. Linux is such a broad universe that there is always more than one way to accomplish something. I may think B is the best solution, you may think G is and Christopher Negus thinks N is.

Product: Linux Bible Christopher Negus is the guru of Linux. He’s written widely on the subject and I’ve learned from everything of his that I have read. He does push the envelope on occasion, though, and this is one of those times. Negus tries to cover the essentials and differences between 18 Linux distributions. First of all, the differences aren’t all that great. Second, there is only so much you can do in 816 pages, especially when you attempt to cram directions for using Linux for gaming, multimedia, word processing, using the shell, programming Linux and so on.

Product: 0596006284 A pocket sized guide to the essential commands of Linux. While specific to an older version of Fedora, this is still a very handy reference. All the essential commands are covered and explained. This is a small book with a limited purpose and it acheives its goals. More or less indispensable for the Linux user. Product: 1119277655 Seasoned network security experts can safely pass this one by but they should be buying it for their bosses and other IT personnel. Author Chris Binnie has taken a massive amount of information, almost all of which can be found on the internet and in other books, and done a heros work in organizing, condensing and distilling the information into a mere 121 pages of clearly written, adequately illustrated text.
