Product: Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything I recently read a book called, Wikonomics - how mass colaboration changes everything by Don Tapscott and Anthony Williams. It is a book about the social networking and collaborative sites that are becoming very popular. I found the book highly interesting since I try to follow trends and try to figure out what opportunities are available in which trends. Wikonomics points out that many times traditional business is afraid of open source projects like Linux and Wikopedia but others see a corneacopia of participation and economy.

Product: 1118935128 This is the best embedded Linux book available. It sets a new standard. The scope and real world practicality of the coverage is unequaled. I was drawn to the book for it’s embedded Debian Linux on ARM coverage, which is useful for other platforms in addition to the BeagleBone Black. I purchased BBB hardware so I could follow along with the book, and am enjoying that platform which I might not otherwise have explored.

Product: 1784392537 Considering how widely embedded Linux is used, we might expect more books on the subject. In fact, there are precious few, and it seems fewer are published now than ten years ago. Why is that? There is no shortage of books on other popular programming topics. It may be that writing competently about embedded Linux requires broader knowledge and greater skill. This new book Mastering Embedded Linux Programming is a surprisingly good book.

Product: How Linux Works I read the first edition of this book ten years ago and liked it so much I thought I would read this new second edition as a refresher. I was struck again by how competently this book is written, and I have learned something new and useful on almost every page. As technical writing goes, this book is perfectly written and I highly recommend it for all Linux skill levels.

Product: How Linux Works This is a useful overview of Linux. I think, though, that the author simply tried to cover too much material, because the coverage of the various commands are little more than listings. He does offer links to more information; but, a lot of them have out of date information. Considering what a mess Linux is, I guess this was about all he could have done. In the interest of full disclosure, I am no fan of Linux.

Product: 0131478230 This book is exactly what the title states - a practical guide to Linux commands, editors and shell programming. It doesn’t teach you how to make all the server software run on your machine. But it does give an excellent and detailed explanation of the commands in the Bash and TC shells, and explains how to write shell scripts. The details the author goes into with the two most common editors (VI and EMACS) was just about right for me.

Product: Linux Bible I haven’t finished the book, but so far I really appreciate the book. The author gives explains methods/concepts, gives step by step insturctions and then explains a little more. This is exactly the book i was looking for. I’m completely new to LInux and pretty new to non-windows use of a computer. I’ve been trying to learn Linux but most books and tutorials do not get down to the basic level.

Product: 0133017532 Every Linux admin book has a different take on administering a Linux installation, and this book is no different. By combining several Linux server books into my reference library, I feel I have a very good set of guides for most any sysadmin situation. Each chapter is well laid out and examples are easy to follow and well documented. Rating: 5 0133017532 Count: 5
