Product: 0596007582 On the road to World domination, the humorous comment from Linus Torvalds, Linux faces one or two minor challenges. One of these is the competition from Windows. This book is aimed at the network administrator in a Windows world. Any network administrator that isn’t living in a dream world has to at least be aware of Linux. And he probably knows things like the increased stability, lower cost, faster performance of Linux.

Product: 0131488724 It’s about time. Linux has been the tekkies choice for operating systems for some time. But making it to the desktop is necessary before it can really grow up. Finally, people are beginning to put together simple to install systems that don’t take a lot of reading about strange acronyms. This book uses MEPIS. It’s software on a CD that just like the title says you point and click.

Product: 1590596277 This has to be one of the clearest books about Ubuntu and in Linux in general. It’s certainly not too geeky, just a bit. Rating: 5 1590596277 Count: 15

Product: 0470038993 This is the one indispensable guide to Ubuntu Linux. It continues a series by updating to the April, 2010, release of Ubuntu 10.04. There are techniques, tricks, hints, and advice here you can find nowhere else. And many are essential to getting the most from the Linux operating system. The book is huge. You will have bedtime reading for a month. If I have one complaint, and it is minor, the author wastes a little space by ungraciously insulting the two popular operating systems.

Product: 0380815931 I, too, picked up this book because of the author alone. I’ve read his stuff in Wired and (of course) his SF books. I’m still trying to figure which one I like the best. However, I’d say that his non-SF seems to be right on. Please understand, he isn’t advocating one OS over another or GUI over command line but is describing how we got here in the first place and is giving YOU the ammo to decide what you want to use on YOUR machine.

Product: 1119277655 This is a rather thin book. It shows some good examples of Linux security with different tools, including knockd, ncat, nping, nmap, maldet, hashcat, etc. I was so underwhelmed by this book that if I had bought it, I would likely have return it because it provides very basic overview of these utilities. Each chapter is 3-4 pages and that includes a page that discusses history or background of how some of these utilities have evolved.

Product: 1517392772 I wanted to know more about Linux for some time now. Picked up this book and was not disappointed. The next job for me now is to sit with my technician and along with him use this book to the best of my abilities. This book will make that route shorter. Rating: 4 1517392772 Count: 39

Product: The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction My background has been mostly with Windows Servers. My experience with Linux has been very limited, especially with the Linux command-line (bash). I’ve read many books on Linux that waste at least a chapter or two on the history of Linux and the biography of Linus Torvalds. This book is different. It jumps right into the meat of the Linux command-line. This book is not a reference book.

Product: 0321832043 The author either doesnt understand what DevOps means or he is intentionally using the term to sell this book. This book has NOTHING to do with DevOps. I am surprised to see so many positive reviews on this book and this is why I initially purchased the book. The book discusses some tips on Linuxs administrative operations. The book is very thin and does not go into any level of detail.
