Product: 159327257X This is a great book for newbies to Unbuntu Linux. It could have a few more pictures and illustrations. The author knows his subject but he could go a little more in depth as there are thing he assumes you know and if I would have come straight from Windows to Ubuntu I would have had a hard time conprehending certain things. Overall it is one of the best books on Linux I found.

Product: 1593270348 I have Linspire 5.0 and I wanted to learn more about Linux command line. The book is good if you are using Fedora Core and it was a good start for command line. I enjoyed it but it could be a little more in depth. Rating: 4 1593270348 Count: 13

Product: 1886411484 Linux may be cool, but the documentation is horrible. There are tons of inconsistent HOWTO files, out of date FAQs, and a bunch of programmers that don’t really see the problem. Whenever you want to do anything with Linux, you usually have to read every piece of documentation out there, and basically reverse-engineer a solution. Most commercial Linux books for beginners (or at least for people who don’t dig through C++ on a daily basis) are not well laid out.

Product: Running Linux I wish I’d had this before I started setting up my Linux system - while I got things mostly configured by following the HOW-TO trail, this book is much clearer and better written. Reading it was a series of Aha! s that cleared up the problems I wasn’t able to solve on my own. Imho, the explanation of IP routing alone is worth the price of the book - I even learned some things about my Windows machines, here.

Product: Linux (Hacking Exposed) First, this book does NOT have a installation walk through…YES!!! You will not find another book this comprehensive in the length in HLE has accomplished. i found the book to be on point, and not overdrawn on any specific topic. The authors usage of gender is something of a mystery aswell. For the first 10 chapters or so the cracker is a woman, then in later chapters it becomes a man, then in even later chapters a woman, then back to a man :-).

Product: 0596527209 I found this book extremely useful. It has been able to provide me with several fixes for common every day issues, enabled me to speed up my machines. (I have at least four machines running ubuntu linux/solaris) and unlike some other operating systems, I do not have to re-invent the wheel with each upgrade. if you use Linux, and Ubuntu is your favorite flavor then this book will serve you well.

Product: 0131478230 This is a very nice book for novice unix users. This book put everything in perspective/context. It starts with a short history of Linux/Unix/GNU and the relation between each other. It is also a very complete book. It covers the main commands, editors, shell programming, et. cetera. The nice thing (especially for novice people), is that there are a lot of examples with a description what it does. The examples are very usable.

Product: Intrusion Prevention and Active Response The June, 2003, report from Gartner on the death of IDS set off a lot of security industry activity. Everyone was busy trying to either defend the IDS product space, reposition their products as IPS devices, or trying to dismiss the Gartner position. Many security engineers had to suddenly evaluate the IPS products on the market and make purchase and deployment decisions, as well. However, there’s been a lack of understanding of this marketspace for some time.
