Product: 0131478230 If you are a beginner/intermediate linux user in need of tutorial style treatment of commands, editors and shell programming then look no further. The author has done an excellent job presenting the chapters, from the basics to more advanced, gradually building on the concepts learned, in a simple, easy-to-read text. This book shines in explaining the commands with relevant examples and differs from the others in not being a printed man pages.

Product: 1680451839 Good basic overview. I was introduced to Unix in college (in the late 70’s). I used it at work daily for years. But have been primarily a windows developer for the last 15 years or so. This book was both nostalgic and enlightening. In some ways Linux has hardly changed from it’s roots, but there are now better tools and much improved techniques. I thought this book does a good job of covering the essence of what is needed.

Product: Running Linux While I do agree with some other reviews that an absolute beginner would probably find this a little overwhelming, someone who has spent a few weeks playing with Linux and is ready to start getting serious will find this a good place to start. If you can’t locate a really good book on your specific flavor of Linux (best, because each distribution has its quirks), this is a solid and well-organized substitute.

Product: Linux for Beginners: An Introduction to the Linux Operating System and Command Line As a self taught computer geek I can never get enough GOOD information on programming and the manner in which code works with different operating systems. Linux has always scared me just a bit, but after having read Mr. Cannon’s book I’m very comfortable with the concepts covered in his Beginners guide. I would be comfortable recommending this book to the beginner as well as the intermediate Linux user.

Product: LINUX: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide! Ive been using Windows on all of my computers and occasionally Ive used Macs in the past, but I have never really known much about Linux. Wanting to expand my technical horizons a little bit, I picked up this book. A friend recommended this book to me as a quick way to get started with learning more about the system, and Im impressed. The book did a great job of breaking things down for beginners like me, and I found it really interesting to boot.

Product: 0130084662 This is an excellent reference to any kind of Linux you may be using. It is well written, with many ideas to avoid pitfalls based on the experience of the author’s. Humor is sprinkled throughout and the book is written in easy to understand, concise language. Make sure you buy it at Amazon because other retailers refuse to give discounts that amount to anything substantial. This is a great book for your Administration library as well.
