Product: Linux Bible I already know Linux, but I bought this book as a desk reference. It was well worth it and has saved me grief more than once. Excellent info on setting up web servers, etc. However, its got pretty much NOTHING on MySQL which is odd because what website in todays world doesn’t require a db? The info on SELinux, web servers, file servers (SAMBA) and email alone made it worth buying.

Product: 0672327201 Simply put this book is well written. The author makes difficult concepts accessible to even newbies. I own both editions, and the second one is even better than the first. This book would also be good as a supplement to the required text for a college-level course on operating systems where Linux is one of the OSes discussed (as is the case these days). Product: 0201187604 This book does a great job of presenting all details of operating system design and operation. When appropriate, the authors point out how Linux, Solaris or Windows implements a given topic. This is valuable for software developers who work on these platform and need to understand how the scheduler is going to react if you spawn new threads/processes. The one bad thing I can say is that some examples are too general and do not convey the proper detail.

Product: 0130158070 Actually all tools described are not Linux specific and can be used for any Unix including FreeBSD and Solaris. The authors seems to know the subject and really used tools that they are writing about. For several popular tools the book provides some useful info that is difficult to find elsewhere. Pretty decent typography, although it’s a little bit too academic and does not use icons on margins that IMHO simplify reading.
