Product: The Linux Programming Interface: A Linux and UNIX System Programming Handbook (review softened after discussing some points with the Mr. Kerrisk) It is true that the book is well-written, the examples work, and the Linux API is explained in detail. This is a unique documentation source. BUT… Do you think that you will enjoy reading (and carrying) the 1.5K pages book? I guess that 99% of the time this is not the book for you.

Product: The Hack-Counter Hack Training Course If you read carefully the Editorial Reviews, you’ll find yourself wondering if all the claims are not too good to be true. Well believe me, the training course lives up to all the claims. Easy to use, it runs flawlessly, with wonderful animation and explanations (hey, remember the instructor is Ed Skoudis). Works both for Windows and Linux boxes, with very modest requirements to install ‘the test Lab’.

Product: 0596006284 I’ve got quite a bit of programming experience; however (oddly enough) I’d done very little work with Linux. On starting a new job, I needed to learn Linux FAST. I needed to quickly understand the language and the power of the command line. As a stroke of luck, O’Reilly happened to be offering a review copy of the Linux Pocket Guide by Daniel J. Barrett to their bloggers. I snapped that thing up fast and blazed through it over the weekend.

Product: 1847192041 If you are thinking of implementing a thin client network, you have to read this book. It does not matter your role, either a manager or a technician. It covers pretty much everything. From theory to implementation. Chapter 3 (Analysis of costs) and Chapter 4 (The People Issues) are quite interesting and I did not expect these issues to be covered in this book. So it was quite a nice surprise.

Product: 1118935128 Derek Molloy is the BEAGLEBONE Master! I have been following Derek for a few years now and have worked out some of his examples in the past…What I love about his techniques is that he uses real programming paradigms instead of skirting it with scripts, python and other simpler programming techniques! If you are serious, you do it in C, write your own drivers, etc. That is the approach I like the most even though it is more complicated.

Product: 0596009305 As an on-again off-again Linux user. Having a physical reference instead of referring to the man pages all the time is quite helpful. And this is a quality book, East have one similar to this for DOS but just not as big. Rating: 5 0596009305 Count: 15

Product: 0131478230 This book is remarkably well written. It is wonderfully clear and precise. Topics are introduced in a logical order, with great care taken to build on previous concepts. This is a book that works well for beginners as well as for more experienced users, or as a refresher. There is enough explanation so that someone can grasp a new concept, and yet the explanation is sufficiently concise so that it doesn’t slow down someone who already has some Unix/Linux skills and is simply reviewing.

Product: 1118935128 I haven’t gone through the whole book yet. Based on what I have read, if you are just learning embedded hardware and embedded Linux this book is one you need. Lots of useful and helpful info. Rating: 5 1118935128 Count: 9
