Product: 1517392772 I am sure that a lot of people out there are familiar with Windows as the software that operates on their computer. Not many people, especially less technically inclined, know that these days there are many different operating software that you can use on your computer. This book helps to introduce the uninformed to Linux, which is similar in its goal as Windows, but different in the way it works.

Product: 178216815X Unlike the other book I read to introduce me to Mint, this author doesn’t assume I have used Linux for years. I didn’t have to go online to look anything up to understand his explanations. He assumes that (like 80% of computer users) that we just want to surf the internet, watch a movie or write a letter. Not find out how to rewrite the entire Linux system in computer language.

Product: 8176567221 This is the book I needed and wanted! I didn’t need a book for dummies, neither did I really want to know the details of recompiling the Linux kernel. If you are an experienced Windows user and are interested in learning Linux, this is the book for you. And, you don’t have to be a Windows Administrator to understand and benefit from it. Part of the reason this book is so great is that it is task oriented.

Product: 1449327141 A very useful book. Mainly a book of ideas more than anything else. Sometimes that is missing in the software development literature. The C11 standard has yet to take hold far and wide. A large body of code will be in earlier versions of C for the foreseeable future. New development however presents an opportunity for doing things with new versions of C in a different way. Source code in C that fully embraces new constructs in the latest revision of C is as different from previous versions of C as code based on the later C++ revisions are to earlier C-Style C++.

Product: 0133017532 A server book may not seem relevant to desktop Ubuntu but knowing more about the core technology can be very useful. You can pick up this knowledge along the way using Web forums and search engine queries, but nothing compares to absorbing such information efficiently through a consolidated medium such as this book. Reading up on these things can at least prepare you in knowing more about what is available, how it works, and where to look for more information.

Product: 0131367366 Some books you read all the way. Some books you just have as a reference for just in case. This fits very well in the latter category and can be very useful when you need to quickly glimpse a snippet of information. One thing I did learn about when using this book recently is the Linux Command called, Apropos. I think it is the single most useful command on a ‘working system’ for leading you towards the commands you need.

Product: 151182607X This is a solid book for those just starting out with the command line. It provides a solid foundation of basic commands that will ease you into Linux. The explanations are very thorough in the beginning of the book and it helps tremendously as you get into the commands. It does not get too technical as to confuse you and provides several solid tutorials as well. Highly recommended for beginners!
