As many know, the Mac OS has been built on top of the Linux OS for the last decade or so. For basic use, it’s kind of irrelevant, since there is a very substantial OS on top of the Linux core, but it is actually sometimes really useful to access some of the Unix OS functionality directly.

This book teaches you how to get at some of that Linux functionality directly, through the Mac Terminal. It teaches you how to use rudimentary file system navigation and maintenance commands, plus some of the other Linux favorites, like grep, find, top, bottom, and a few others.

For people that have some experience with Linux, this is going to likely to be too rudimentary for you. Once you know how to access the terminal, you are off and running and all the commands taught in this book will be old hat to you. But for those with only PC and Mac experience, I think this could be a very useful book, getting you started in the exciting Linux world.
