This is a good introductory guide to penetration and security testing with Metasploit, Fast-Track, and SET. You need to know Linux, and it would be helpful to know some programming, at least Python and Ruby. This is more of a how to do it kind of book, for people who learn by actually working with the software. This is more important here, because the software isn’t intuitive. Chapter 1 is a very useful overview. It also builds on previous chapters, which is good. The description of gathering info is useful, and the most important part of the book. Good discussion of vulnerabilities, covering social engineering for example. There isn’t really any stuffing, and it’s pretty thorough. The book is capped off with a pen test, well a good approximation. Pen testing is something every network ought to have done, from time to time. This could even be useful for those who don’t do InfoSec. Very well done.
