Linux is off-putting to most of us who have grown up with a GUI like Windows and are comfortable with Windows. SO using LInux scares many of us off from using it for our projects, even maker projects. Linux is actually a good op sys for maker projects, but with so many of us not being familiar with LInux, we need an easy guide to get us started.

I wasn’t sure if this book would fit the bill. When I first opened it up and started to read, my eyes started to glaze over a little. But with a little effort, I was able to stay engaged long enough to get started and then this book started to kick in. One of the biggest hurdles to overcome is getting your Raspberry Pi or other processor loaded with the operating system. This book takes you through step-by-step on how to get Linux loaded onto your device and how to get started programming with Linux. It is suprisingly easy and the way the writers handle it, there is no frustration or boredom to overcome. They get right into the details of how to get started and they do.

From there, the book has plenty of step by step projects and links to sites that will help you with your ideas. My biggest negatives would be the smaller size of the book and inexpensive printing materials that make it a little harder to read to start off with compared with a more expensive book. Still, for someone wanting to save money and get started in the maker scene with Linux, this is a good starting point.
