This book was published in 2007, and is too far behind modern technology to be useful today.

Examples:
–The current release of Ubuntu is version 12.0.4. This book addresses version 6 (and includes a Live CD edition of this version).
–In discussing the addition of an Ubuntu installation to a computer running Windows, the Windows operating system portions do not include any discussions of operating systems newer than Windows XP.
–Hardware discussions (especially related to storage devices) are painfully and obviously outdated.
-Chapters 3 and 4 are totally obsolete given the ease of installing Ubuntu on a Windows machine today. For those considering Ubuntu: as long as you have adequate disk space, you can move from Windows only to a dual-booting Windows/Ubuntu machine in about 30 minutes. While I wouldn’t recommend this on your primary machine unless you have a recent backup as matter of prudence, the current installation package for current Windows machines is fast and easy).

This book is not without some utility as a basic reference on command line interface usage. In 2007, this would have been a five-star book. Today, useful only for the background on CLI usage and some Linux/Ubuntu technical history. But you can do much better for less (or no!) cost in the online Ubuntu communities or more current ebook references.
