Learn Raspberry pi with Linux is a very useful book. Once the obligatory introductory chapters are out of the way, you delve, step by step, into the Linux system, and its’ particular implementation on the Pi. If you are new to Linux, this book will get you started on taming and using this powerful and far-ranging system. The projects chosen, learning to write BASH scripts, opening a virtual desktop on another machine, installing a LAMP server, configuring cable-less wifi and experimenting with web cams and motion detection, or setting up a media center, will not only get you up and running with Linux-speak (the explanations concerning the various commands and their syntax are really good) but will serve as the basis for further extensions of the Pi and Linux’s usefulness.
Yes, as one reviewer pointed out, the photos in the book are fuzzy, but they aren’t where the information is anyway, and the text of this gem is loaded! Any complaints? Well, the index is a sham. It looks like a real index, but I suspect it was generated by indifferent software since it lacks more than a few important entries while featuring some really trivial ones! My advice is to add your own notes to the index when you come across something that interests you, because the chances are good that the index won’t be much help when you go looking for it again.
Minor problems aside, if you are looking to learn, this book will open some doors!
