This book was assigned for a course I took. It is perfect for both the new and slightly experienced Linux user.
Why I say user? Because whether you are a user or admin in Linux there are things you should know about adminstration of Linux.
The author does a great job providing a high level, and more important a lower level view of Linux.
He gives you the commands every user should know, and how scripts work.
The most important part of the book is devoted to configuring Linux. From building the kernel and boot configuration to several chapters on networking.
His instructions on compiling the kernel, and what to do if it didn’t work, are very straight forward.
There are several chapters addressing the various aspects of networking. From device configuration to network security, the author does an excellent job putting the pieces together.
I agree with other reviewers that once you get through this book you will probably want something more advanced.
The writing style is very conversational and is for the lost linux user.
