Combined with previous training and experience, I used to this book to pass the Linux+ exam LX0-101. I just finished part two of this book which covers topics on Linux+ exam LX0-102. With that in mind, let me say that Mr. Smith should be commended for contributing such a useful text to the canon. Under the constraint of being a certification text, Mr. Smith has covered all the technical points of the Linux+ and added practical advice and anecdotes where appropriate. The reader should expect to spend a lot time with this text, as the subject matter, while familiar in many parts, is not trivial. Note that this text covers Linux as it might be found in Fedora 14, before the use of systemd and standard implementation of SE Linux. Systemd and SE Linux are not currently part the Linux+ exam. Supplement this text with Linux Administration Handbook or other Linux texts to expand on issues Mr. Smith could not go deeper on. As always, use the man pages too! In short, this book would have earned five stars if it had been written better (stylistically) and followed the Linux+ exam objectives as posted on the CompTIA web -site. Otherwise, one would be wise to add this book to their collection.
