Product: LINUX: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide!

I have a background in Windows with many years spent as a systems administrator for a large company. I am fully aware of the vulnerabilities that the Windows operating system can have and have been interested in the stable environment of the Linux operating system but have never had the time to learn and could never find a book that could convey the Linux principles in a way that is quick and easy to learn.

This book was recommended by a friend and I am so glad they did! The concepts are broken down into a simple and easy to understand manner. I particularly liked chapter 2 which covered the essential functions such as basic commands and how to use Bash features.

Chapter 3 takes you through the file structure in great detail which is essential for all Linux beginners to understand, particularly when moving from Windows. The descriptions on the different types of shells were very pleasing.

The book is rounded off quite nicely towards the end with chapter 7 Networking, which starts of by explaining the OSI Model, covers how to access graphical tools for Ubuntu and Gnome systems and discusses configuration files.

All in all, a very well written, easy to understand book…essential if you are embarking on the wonderful world of Linux!
