Linux can be intimidating for a noob. This book acts like a comforting friend to walk you through the process. The book gives you a lot of exercises to do, and they’re fun as well as educational. For instance, in teaching you how to add applications and such to your panels, it has you add things like googly eyes and Wanda the fish. The book also meticulously teaches you how to decorate your desktop which is great for new users because let’s face it, that’s part of why computers are fun. There is also a chapter on games and one on how to upload music and such.

In short, this book will teach you how to do all the basic things that people need computers for every day. It does not teach you advanced things and for that you’ll have to find another book. But, I think for the average user this will get their feet and maybe even their legs wet.

All and all, I would recommend this for new users (even for people who aren’t familiar with any os) and for the well-seasoned linux users because they need to give this to their noob friends!
