Product: RHCSA/RHCE Red Hat Linux Certification Study Guide First of all, this book is meant to help you study for two different exams. This means that the topic are covered in a bit of a strange order. First, the RHCSA is covered. This is the Red Hat entry level exam. Unless you are a long time sysadmin, you can expect to learn quite a bit from this part of the book, even if you have been running Linux as a normal user for years (as I have).

Product: 0132757273 This is a good book to read about all things Linux and more. If you use CentOS 7, you should have a copy of this book. If you enjoy installing Linux from a minimal install, this book will show you how to get the network card configured without the GUI! You should be able to handle it from there. All in all, this is a great Linux book to own.

Product: 0071767584 I was an MCSE back in the NT 4.0 days. That was before Al Gore invented the internet. I’ve been using computers since the TRS 80s, owned a 8088 that came with MS DOS 3.3, and have basically stayed in that track till now. Never got serious about Linux, sure, I’d take an old workstation and load Linux, play around with it for a couple days, then get bored or lost, and give up.

Product: 1453689923 While this book is helpful in learning some Linux commands used by all distros, I found it was a bit outdated with regards to CentOS. I believe the book was geared towards a CentOS 6.5 version. This book is not helpful if you aren’t running the specified version of CentOS. With CentOS version 7, many of the examples in this book are no longer valid or many warning messages are received due to the use of outdated commands.

Product: RHCSA/RHCE Red Hat Linux Certification Study Guide This is one of the best books I have found on the subject. There are a lot of useful real world tips and tricks sprinkled throughout the book. It has come in handy lot at work. The author is fairly concise in presenting fairly difficult materials. I would recommend this book for any aspiring Linux administrators. Unfortunately it does not cover anything outside of the base packages included with the RHEL/CentOS distributions, but it is definitely a great starting point.

Product: 1430219300 Several months ago I was asked to evaluate a LAMP platform ( Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP ) for an in-house intranet application. I choose CentOS and this book to begin. So how did I get on. Getting Started with CentOS … This is the first section of the book and spans 4 chapters. It answers the questions, why choose CentOS, installation and where to download the files from, a few basic commands and how to patch your fresh install with the latest updates using the YUM tool.

Product: 1430219300 I buy a lot of books on Amazon and most I don’t review because I don’t have the time. But this particular book is outstanding. I have been using Unix and Linux for a long time and this book–in a humorous fashion–explained to me why things are they way they are and why. The author speaks the Queen’s English very well and has a very dry sense of humor that he tosses in variously.
