Product: Linux (Hacking Exposed) Hacking Linux Exposed by Brian Hatch, James Lee and George Kurtz, is a nice follow-up to their bestselling Hacking Exposed . While not as groundshaking as its predecessor, the new book does provide a good reference for people just starting with Linux. Anyone who is setting up or planning to set up a Linux network should consider owning it, together with the appropriate Linux administration manuals.

Product: Linux Bible The book is pretty much well written and does contain a lot of good info, however Ive got to drop my rating for the overly-hyped marketing. While the author is clear that the team putting this together is a fully Red Hat group the covers & write-ups claim …a focus on the latest version of Red Hat…Fedora…and Ubuntu…. Yes, Ubuntu is regularly mentioned and a few Ubuntu instructions are presented but understand that the book really is about Red Hat/Fedora and just barely scratches any Debian products.

Product: 1518684777 I like this RASPBERRY PI book, because it intent to promote the teaching of basic in schools and developing countries. And also it include the same Video Core IV graphics processing unit (GPU) and either a single-core ARMv6-compatible CPU or a newerARMv7 compatible quad-core one (in Pi 2) and not just that also the Foundation provides Debian and Arch Linux ARM distributions for download and I think they promotes Python as the main programming language.

Product: 0131861506 I am giving it 4 instead of 5 only for being a little rpm-ized, (as I am a fan of Debian). Even if you know almost everything, this book can help as a sumarized how-to of many things you’ll need to setup at a given time. Rating: 4 0131861506 Count: 8

Product: 0596009305 This book covers the administration of, usage of, and shell programming on Linux systems. The book is an overview of Linux and serves as an excellent reference, but doesn’t come close to a tutorial. This 6th edition continues to be a good extended man page for the operating system’s many commands, features, and utilities. Linux has recently been extended, and most of those extensions appear to be covered in this book.

Product: 0596002726 I was in a urgent need of some fairly serious Linux bootcamp. This book worked, and this is how: I hadn’t had any significant Linux experience prior to buying this book. Sure, I knew a few basic UNIX commands, who doesn’t? After installing Ubuntu it became clear that I simply will have to spend too much time googling solutions for every problem. I went ahead and bought this book, read it cover to cover in about two days, and my fluentness in Linux administration/programming has increased dramatically.

Product: 1590596277 Ubuntu Linux is a Debian based distribution that aims to be particularly user friendly and does an excellent job at it. A desktop focused product, it comes with all the most commonly used software including a full Office Suite (including a database and slideshow product), web browser, instant messaging, audio player, movie player, CD/DVD burner, photo editor, and of course various games, screen savers, and utilities. The book has a good section on getting things up and running correctly that covers all the most common problems that you might encounter during an install.

Product: 0596008015 Linux is a great operating system but like every other one it has some annoyances that may crop up from time to time. The purpose of this book is to help the reader to get Linux to work the way they want it to without getting annoyed in the process. As such the target audience is the Linux power user and system administrators. Some of the areas covered include configuring GNOME applications in KDE and configuring KDE applications in GNOME, X Window configuration, working with CDs and DVDs, configuring sound, converting from Outlook, interfacing with various Instant Messaging programs, working with Microsoft Office documents, multimedia, hardware issues, startup problems, system maintenance, CUPS printing, using Samba, and various administrative tasks.
