Product: 0672336243 I am often disappointed with technical books but this one is very nice. Very clear and nicely written, and thorough. Even when some details on a topic are missing, this is indicated, so you can know what to search for elsewhere in case you need to. I installed Ubuntu on a Mac partition so I have it along with OSX on the same computer, and obviously the book does not cover something unusual like that, but this book was still very helpful for my install, along with the Mac-specific stuff I found on the web.

Product: 111846446X The stuff in this book assumes that one is a beginner in all sorts of areas of expertise - The Pi, programming, electronic circuit construction (now known as Hardware Hacking apparently) and so forth. It gives excellent starter tips on what’s what, from hooking up the Pi and your options in doing so to configuring Debian on the Pi, shell basics, a light intro to Python, basic soldering techniques, resistor identification (only needed for a hardware hack of course, the Pi comes ready-built), and some details of piggy-back boards that open up the world of the programmable GPIO pins (which is where the Pi becomes more than a tiny desktop computer).

Product: Linux Bible It seems like a lot of the Linux books out there right now pick a single distribution and teach you that one. Chapter List: Part 1 - Linux First Steps: Starting With Linux; Running Commands from the Shell; Getting into the Desktop Part 2 - Running The Show: Learning Basic Administration; Getting on the Internet; Securing Linux

Product: 0596008015 This book makes a handy quick refference for Linux setup and customization. The audience for this book is the experienced Linux user, but the reader doesn’t have to be an advanced Linux user (though, it helps). As someone who’s been using Linux for 7 years, there are some things explained in this book that are new to me, some things that I can do blindfolded, and some that I remember, but need to refresh when I actually need to do them.

Product: 0131478230 Sobell expands on his earlier books to give us this latest offering. Somewhat monumental in scope. Basically because the intended audience is quite diverse. He suggests that you could fall into any of these categories - system administrator, programmer, or new Linux user. And if you are a sysadmin or programmer, your prior experience with Linux might vary from none to considerable. The book also attempts not to play favourites concerning the various Linux distributions that exist - from Red Hat, Novell/SUSE, Debian, Knoppix and others.

Product: 159327257X This is Grant’s third book about user-friendly Linux desktop distributions, following Linux For Non-Geeks about the Fedora distribution and Linux Made Easy covering the Xandros distribution. As one might expect, he gets better with each book. The first two-thirds of the book cover the all-important aspects of installing and using the Ubuntu operating system. An early chapter provides a guide to the highly personalizable Gnome windows interface, followed by a chapter on connecting to the Internet and using browsers and email programs.
