Product: 1849695105 I have recentlygrabbed a copy of Penetration Testing with the Bash Shell…. My observation is,there are security incidents all over, but there are very few booksavailable, yet it seems there are even fewer mature specialists tolearn from. Keith Makan surely is one of the top ones. My intent wasnarrow: to widen my knowledge on the penetration testing tactics, andI hoped to apply at least a few at work. This book helped.

Product: 1783982144 With the advent of the constantly connected computers (not only the Internet) the attack surface has increased immensely. At the same time the user machines became as powerful as the servers were. However, there was very little done to educate computer professionals to detect, prevent and cope intrusions or penetration attacks. Kali Linux Network Scanning Cookbook can serve very well as one to close the gap. A little on Kali Linux: it is a specialized distribution for penetration testing and forensics purposes.

Product: 1849695105 Ill have to say that, for some reason, I thought this book was going to be some kind of guide to using only bash itself to do penetration testing. Its not that at all. Its really more like doing penetration testing FROM the bash shell, or command line of you like. Your first 2 chapters take you through a solid amount of background bash shell information. You cover topics like directory manipulation, grep, find, understanding some regular expressions, all the sorts of things you will appreciate knowing if you are going to be spending some time at the command line, or at least a good topical smattering.

Product: 1849695105 Penetration Testing with the Bash shell I gave this book a 5 star rating because I felt it covered all of the basic concepts rather well, and it was easy to follow along. The crash course on using the console (Bash) system was very well paced and planned out. I administer various linux systems and found this book rather helpful for testing the different virtual machines, dedicated machines, and workstations around the home office.

Product: 1783982144 Kali Linux Network Scanning Cookbook Where to begin with this book, well we can start by just how amazing it is! Right off the start you setup a virtual environment and the instructions are pretty clear, I had no issues getting this going. The Windows XP system I didn’t even bother with as I wanted to focus on ISO images of systems I had on hand and that worked perfectly for me.

Product: 159327288X This is a great reference book, however it is a book and by the time it is printed, it is obsolete. The exploits in this book are not all going to work, however it is a great starting point for the references. The real value is understanding the framework and helping you develop your own exploits and tools to use within the Metasploit framework! I give it only four stars as I think it could have been a bit more comprehensive with stronger use case scenarios and examples.

Product: 1494861275 Daniel has done a great job in setting up a functional, easy to read, easy to navigate beginners guide to Kali Linux. The tools he uses in the book and the tactics to create an easy to build environment for learning pen-testing is superb! I have been seen at airports while reading this and people always come to me and ask my opinion on this book and topics. It is simple, I tell them to get it!
