Product: 1784392537 Considering how widely embedded Linux is used, we might expect more books on the subject. In fact, there are precious few, and it seems fewer are published now than ten years ago. Why is that? There is no shortage of books on other popular programming topics. It may be that writing competently about embedded Linux requires broader knowledge and greater skill. This new book Mastering Embedded Linux Programming is a surprisingly good book.

Product: 1449344216 I’m quite impressed by this short, easy-to-read book by O’Reilly Press. In one book you have everything you need to learn how to make the most of the Raspberry Pi for programming hobby projects. Chapter one describes the Raspberry Pi hardware; chapter two provides a basic introduction to Linux, the operating system of choice for the Raspberry Pi; chapter three introduces Python, a popular, powerful, easy-to-use programming language that works well with Linux; and the remainder of the book covers Scratch (a graphical programming environment), integrating Arduino microcontrollers, using the general-purpose input/output pins; and presents sample projects: building a security camera-type project using a USB Webcam, and building a box that can display weather information on a TV.

Product: 1449344216 I purchased and read the Kindle version of this book and was extremely pleased with it. As others have noted, Richardson’s clear and concise delivery of what can be complicated subject matter make this book an indispensable entry point for new Pi users. As a software developer who has worked in the Linux environment for more than a decade, I was largely familiar with much of the material. Regardless, I was introduced to some very useful features of the Linux OS that I was not previously aware of.

Product: 1518684777 This ebook contains numerous technical errors, over-generalizations and typos. If it were correct, it would have taken the user to the point where they have a Linux system on the Raspberry Pi, and know a very little about what to do with it. There were no details about how to use any of the components that make this a revolutionary device. There was no mention of non-Linux operating systems that can be used on the Raspberry Pi.

Product: 1430248211 This is one of the best computer books I have ever read. I’ve used Linux for years, but the subject really opened up for me with this book – and that was all before I purchased a Raspberry Pi! It is more of an OS and software book than a hardware book, and is certainly not a ‘quick start’ guide. A couple drawbacks are the small print and poor print quality of some of the photos.

Product: 1449362346 Hacks, in this context, means clever or interesting things to do with your Raspberry Pi. It covers things that make using your Pi easier, to outlandish (waterproof your Pi), impractical (use a Raspberry Pi for geocaching), and fun. The book itself is well written and easy to read. Even if you don’t try most of the projects, you will very likely pick up useful tips from reading about them.

Product: 1119188687 The author gives informative description of any technical aspect related to the Raspberry PI. He touches very wide range of topics, from Linux shell commands to programming hardware modules (SPI, I2C) and IoT. The opinion of Derek Malloy is always reasonable and his advice accurate. The tremendous number of examples are totally useful and very clear. Frankly speaking, the book is the best one that I read in last three years.

Product: 1518684777 I didn’t know that Linux and Raspberry can go hand in hand. It is a good thing that I get to read this book. I am fond of reading books that are innovative and new. The topic of this book falls in this category. It contains basic information which is something that I find useful because yeah, I am new to this. I need to explore and see what I can do from the knowledge I got from reading this book.
