Product: 1449316697 This pocket guide isn’t worth the paper it is printed on. It is primarily for a Fedora/Red Hat distro and really doesn’t do a good job at describing the command uses. I have been teaching Linux for eight years and have been using Linux since the mid 90’s. I have switched to the Linux Phrasebook by Scott Granneman. It is a much better guidebook for administrators and people learning how to use Linux.

Product: 0321159985 Review I’ve been interested in running a Linux desktop lately, and I’ve looked at a number of books to help me get there. The problem is that you either get a good book on installing Linux, or you get a book that delves into the guts of Linux. But what if you just want to learn how to do day-to-day activities (like create documents, spreadsheets, listen to music, etc.

Product: Linux Bible It seems like a lot of the Linux books out there right now pick a single distribution and teach you that one. Wiley’s Linux Bible (2005 Edition) by Christopher Negus takes a different approach that may be valuable to you. Chapter List: Part 1 - Linux First Steps: Starting With Linux; Running Commands from the Shell; Getting into the Desktop Part 2 - Running The Show: Learning Basic Administration; Getting on the Internet; Securing Linux

Product: 0596000715 My only mistake about buying this book is it wasn’t my first one. I really think it does an awesome job of taking you thru most of the questions you’d have as a new user of Red Hat Linux, and explains things fully enough for now. When you’re finished with this, getting O’Reilly’s Running Linux is definitely a good follow-up purchase. It seems every question i went crazy trying to figure out with all of my advanced books, was right here in Learning Red Hat Linux.

Product: Linux Bible Don’t bother. Very generic - you can get all this from various forums on the web. Web server and DNS sections are watered down and primarily for Red Hat/Fedora. No good details on zones/BIND/named. His Red Hat Linux9 Bible from 2003 is much better than this. Rating: 2 0470230193 Count: 52

Product: Running Linux You just got hold of a Linux distribution for the first time in your life. Probably it is Red Hat but it could be anything. You may even have some manuals that came with the distribution but you know you are going to need more than that. And you have absolutely no experience with this operating system. You feel overwhelmed even before you start the installation. Been there done that.

Product: 0596008015 This book makes a handy quick refference for Linux setup and customization. The audience for this book is the experienced Linux user, but the reader doesn’t have to be an advanced Linux user (though, it helps). As someone who’s been using Linux for 7 years, there are some things explained in this book that are new to me, some things that I can do blindfolded, and some that I remember, but need to refresh when I actually need to do them.

Product: RHCSA/RHCE Red Hat Linux Certification Study Guide Having read (and reviewed) the previous edition of this book, I can say that this book (the Sixth edition) delivers on the strong points as well as its predecessor. The book is organized in such a way to mirror the exams, which means the organization has changed from the previous edition. While I admit that I have no intention of taking the exams at this moment, I still find this book to be quite useful.
